Car Warranty A Waste Of Time.
« on: April 26, 2019, 06:59:25 PM »

Vauxhall Car Warranty .
Well after 18 months or Faulty Vauxhall Mokka X is being bought back by the dealers on Monday.
We are going to loose £7000  >:D.

From the first trip we had in it there were problems, they have had it back about 8/ 10 times and because these faults a random and Intermittent they can not find them, the 12 car computing modules say 'No problem' when  they check the car 'OD2' data bus. When I check the cars 'PID's' there is never any fault codes logged. :'(
The most dangerous two problems out of about 25  :o are the car engine stops for no reason and the lack of Accelerator peddle response.
eg you could be turning right like my wife did some time ago and the car decides to kill the engine when you are making that turn (Not a stall !), the other you slow down for a speed limit say of 30mph and when you get to that speed you need some engine power to keep you rolling along and press the accelerator and there is no response and it could be up to 20 seconds before the engine comes to life with a jolt.
Pressing the accelerator to pass another vehicle is a No No because it is like 'Russian Roulette',  will the engine rev up or just die.
No way would I go on the Motorway with it.
You have to have a car you can trust as our lives are important.

Lack of response to acceleration isn't very good and rather worrying.   :(

We had a problem with an Astra years ago which couldn't be fixed.  - The windows would wind down by themselves and refuse to go back up.
There were times when we'd leave the car locked in the car-park and come back to find both front windows down...  or driving along the motorway when its pouring down and they'd suddenly wind down by themselves.  It was quite spooky!

After several months it became quite amusing (not) as each time Vauxhall Assistance had to drop us off a hire car & had to tow away the Astra to a secure location because the windows would just not remain closed.  It had several new parts but still continued to open the windows by itself and refuse to close them again.  We were even on first name terms with the AA guy who used to come and tow it away.

In the end (think it would have been about 4/5 months old) Vauxhall bought it back from us and gave us a decent discount on a new Vectra.
We did lose a bit for depreciation but because of the timing, the Vectra was registered with a plate for the following year so we were ok and seemed fair enough on both sides.  We did have to get Vauxhall HO involved though as the local dealers weren't quite as willing to sort a deal.

Had the windows all opening on this car, but we could close them again, not funny in the poring rain or frosty day going along at 60mph.
Wrote to the CEO of Vauxhall about all the problems, fat lot of help that was !. >:D
We are looking at other makes as I have lost all faith in Vauxhall.

Unfortunately, the computerised control systems of modern cars has consequences.  But old cars broke too.

I owned a 1975 Ford Cortina.   It had old fashioned handles to open and close the windows, but the nearside rear mechanism had became detached from the glass.   Iirc, that aslo led to spurious and unexpected opening.

I’m also reminded of Dad’s 78 Escort, purchased new.  It had a cable operated carburettor, but a bit like Mike’s Mokka, it had a habit of, just occasionaly, responding in random ways when you pressed the accelerator. Main dealer was flumoxed.   At about 3 months old I decided “sod the warranty” and took the top off the carburettor.   After removing the surprisingly well-preserved remains of a dead wasp from the float chamber, where it had been since manufacture, the car ran perfectly.

Difference is though, imho, in these days you could “see” how things worked.   And when things didn’t work, all you had to do was look in the right place to see what wasn’t working.   That’s been replaced with computer diagnostics, but the computer will only look in places the designer thought worthwhile.  If the dead wasp wasn’t a design consideration, the diagnostics may not look for it. :(
