This morning my very long standing Windows desktop shortcut to the kitz forum which has always been:
http://forum.kitz.co.uk/
initially informed, to the effect "can not redirect properly" and took me to the main site index page:
https://kitz.co.uk/index.htm

Subsequent attempts to reach the forum using the same desktop shortcut took me directly to the main site index page but without displaying the initial warning.

Edit:
Cross posted with kitz.

Should now be ok.

You probably got those error messages whilst I was still trying to find a solution.  I did say I managed to break things several times first :D

A simple redirect on index.htm to index.php ended up breaking lots of other index pages including all links to the forum and the wiki.  Still can't fathom out why, because neither have ever used index.htm.    The only side effect now is that urls show index.php, but a straight forward link to forum.kitz.co.uk should now work redirect fine.

I aspired to switch to using ‘cool URIs’ that are extension-less for documents, that is getting rid of .html or .htm etc and especially death to .php, and instead always having /whatever/something-cool rather than /whatever/something-cool.html. It was a couple of lines of .htaccess with Apache iirc.

I think it was trying to get rid of the extensions which broke some of the redirects.   Not sure because thats what I seemed to be struggling with.   Portions of the site still use .htm whilst others use .php.

--- Quote ---Sorry to hear about the morphine. I am on swigs of ‘oramorph’ (which sounds like morphine but I actually have no idea what is in it). It’s very good because it works very quickly. Janet was feeding it to me through the night so she is tired this morning.

Anyway, we can form a small club.

I'm on time release morphine and oramorph as a top up for break through pain.   Yes Oramorph is fast acting morphine, the downside for me was that it wears off after about 2-3hrs so you often find yourself in periods of waiting for the 4hrs to be up so you can take the next dose with pain going up and down over the course of the day. I found pain was constantly like this ^v^v^v^v^v when just on oramorph.

Weaver:
Is that time release through a skin patch ? I am still on skin patch slow release fentanyl as well. But I never had anything powerful enough and fast enough to sort out sudden pain. But now I do and am on top of it for the first time in more than ten years.

Strangely enough, using my default browser, Firefox, the anomalies as reported earlier are still the same (worked yesterday), however, using my backup browser, Pale Moon, everything works normally as previous !
No Firefox updates have occured and I have not changed any FF settings recently.
Pale Moon appears to automatically add "/index.php" to the entered "forum.kitz.co.uk" URL.

Wouldn't be the first time that FF anomalies have been recorded, BTw performance tester for example, I have to use an alternative browser on a few of my on line banking sites due to various anomalies but still prefer FF for general usage.

Please don't concern yourself too much with this as the work arounds are very easy and cause no hardship.

Edit:
Everything works normally in MS Edge (Win 10) browser also, would certainly appear to be a Firefox related anomaly.

@ tiffy - thanks. :)
