Adjusted Downstream SNR, what about Upstream SNR?
« on: June 19, 2008, 12:16:03 AM »

Hello again to everybody, I hope all is well!

I have recently downloaded DMT v8 and have adjusted the downstream SNR on my Netgear DG834GT so that I sync stabley at a full 1mbps higher! I am very pleased as you would expect!!  :D

The thing I am wondering is, would it be possible to now adjust my upstream SNR using DMT or similar? I notice in DMT above where it says upstream it states RCO: 46% (968kbps), however I am only syncing at 448kbps.

Any help on this would be whole-heartedly appreciated!!  :)

448kbps is the maximum sync speed on a Home "up to 8Mb" connection, presuming you're not on LLU - even if you are they often limit to 448kbps too. "Office" connections are up to 832kbps.

With that RCO figure saying 46%, if your broadband package allowed a higher than 448kbps sync, then chances are your line would manage it!

Thanks for your reply Mr_Chris,

Am I correct in thinking RCO stands for relative capacity occupation?

There is no chance of us having our exchange upgraded to a higher than upto 8 mbps one, so looks as though I am stuck with the lower upstream connection, nevermind!!!

It took us ages of campaigning to BT just for them to broadband enable it back in 2004!!!

DMT doesnt tweak the upstream.. on those routers that are tweakable, most router software will only allow you to change the downstream SNR Margin.

Have you had a look on the adsl checker to see which LLU providers are available at your exchange?

Hi Kitz,

Yes I've had a look, unfortunatley not one operator is offering LLU at our exchange  :(

Our exchange only serves about 700 premises so they probably don't consider it worth their while!

Thanks anyway though for your help, it's greatly appreciated.
