Hi guys,
I've recently purchased an OpenWRT router which I connected via Openreach Huawei 612 vdsl modem with my BT Superfast Fibre 1. It works, however the download and upload speeds are much slower than of the original hub 6, for example on hub 6 download is close to 50 mbs and upload 9mbs, when connected via huawei modem download 30 upload only 0.5.

I've the modem unlocked, am I missing something in the configuration? Why such a huge difference between them?

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, I attached the requested information

I think since morning downstream went up to 54997, I'm pretty sure it was less than 300000, it is not reflected in broadband speed tests as download is still around 30, upload stays 0.5

Something is clearly wrong with the uploads as its showing at 588kbps.

Id try an alternative modem and see what that shows, but do not swap too often or you'll trigger the dlm.

Please do not rely upon the GUI of the HG612 for the circuit's statistics. Those pages do not display the statistics correctly.

As the device is unlocked, just establish either a ssh or telnet session to it using the IPv4 address 192.168.1.1

Login at the CLI with the admin/admin credentials, enter sh at the initial prompt and then enter the xdslcmd info --stats command. Copy the entire output and past it here within [code][/code] tags.

What grabbed my attention in the gui is the number of HEC errors 4294967290 seems to be a huge number.

It is the errors that are reported incorrectly (I think two figures are switched), the line rate is reported correctly though.

Can't you reconnect the Hub 6, even if you can't see the line rate you'll get an idea from a speed test?

Yes, of course I can reconnect hub 6, I did before and actually have the numbers

Maximum data rate:
8968 / 54817
Those numbers are very close to real upload / download speeds using hub 6.

And also found test results from yesterday when I ran two tests, huawei and after that bt hub 6, see that bt hub is way faster.




What I don't get is how the openreach modem gets the speeds so wrong. I'm starting thinking of switching off wireless and dhcp and using ihub 6 as a modem for my new router.

Anyway for me the numbers I posted in the post above are like black magic, if you guys see what is wrong there then any help appreciated

I'd factory reset that 612 and reflash it again too, something looks very wrong there

Thanks John for the hint, QOS was enabled so I disabled it, I'm using the modem in bridged mode with an OpenWRT powered router. After the change rates are as follow D55087   U597 so nearly no change, upload slightly up from 588.

I can quickly reflash it though not sure if this will help as already did yesterday.

One thing else I noticed in the third screen-scrape from the GUI you showed, above, is that the VLAN tagged 301 is still present. As that is the communication channel for the BTagent and is no longer relevant, just delete the VLAN. (That neuters the BTagent.)

Make sure that you do not inadvertently delete the VLAN tagged 101, as that is essential for the service.

I reflashed again, disabled QOS, deleted vlan 301. The change is in downstream as it has been halved now...
