Speed Limited, IP Profile Stuck or ?
« on: October 11, 2019, 07:34:40 PM »

HI all,  been going around the houses with PN and looking for some thoughts....

On the 27th of September there was first an lack of internet access starting around 1AM, no access until around 5:45 AM when there was a retrain and everything came back to life, but this time with a poor sync rate low 60's when I'm normally 76+ and one very noticeable change, G.INP was enabled on the Upstream for the first time ever.  Every 2 days there was a DLM event between 5-8AM for 2 weeks, obviously DLM had reset and nice speed increments, but also on the final last few speed steps before DLM ended it was applying INP at 55, max the line ever had was 50 and normally settled on 47 and ran for months on end at this level of protection.  It settled on 79999/20000 for connection speed, all fine, except my actual throughput speed has been stuck at 67Mbps from around the connection speed rate of 70 Mbps or so and as it stepped up connection finally to 79999, thoughput hasn't moved one iota off 67Mbps.

My PN dashboard says I'm at 70.2Mbps, throughputs say not available but have always shown in the past, the speed they show is not the case, PN did a test on the line today and they tell me my sync rate is 76Mbps, but this is not correct that's my old sync rate back on the 27th and they've tried to tell me my speedtests are wrong, uh, no they aren't.  One additional strange anomoly, is that the BTW speedtest won't perform the "further test" it always returns an error so I can't see the IP profile, it's always worked in the past.

So I'm stumped, my stats are as follows, happy to provide charts too, but starting with the stats:

Something odd, yes, agreed.

I'm sure either Kitz or j0hn will be able to expand on my hazy recollection . . . Something about the Plusnet tests always returning the data from 13 days earlier.  :-\

OpenReach have been trialling higher levels of G.INP.
It could have an impact on throughput.

A GEA test (what Plusnet will have used to get the sync or line profile) provides a line profile that's 13 days old.

They can use the RRT(Reactive Repair Tool) to get a more recent line profile.

Can you post the part of the --stats command you used above that shows the Bearer 0 INP figures like below

Quote
    Bearer 0
INP:            47.00           0.00
INPRein:        0.00            0.00
delay:          0               0
PER:            0.00            9.13
OR:             0.01            28.02
AgR:            44347.02        7257.34

This will show if ReTx High or Low.

Capping the sync about 70Mb might nudge DLM to ReTx Low if it's High, increasing the IP profile.

Thanks j0hn, indeed happy to provide, here's where I'm at...

Just a quick update, PN's Gandolf came back, he's indicate the data is likely old, just as you state (thank you for confirming this is 13 days) and to trust the modem, he said he's identified a potential packet loss situation on the backbone and he's opened a ticket on that.  He also said he nudged my profile up but didn't indicate to what setting, it didn't make a difference on DL but on UL ironically it was a 1Mbps increase but frankly that doesn't matter as it wasn't the problem.

Further to this, DLM acted on the line this morning at 02:15 reducing INP from 55 to 52 on the DL and it totally removed INP from the UL, sync is the same 79999/20000.  There is no difference in speedtests for DL this morning, however for UL I'm back to my normal 19Mbps consistently for throughput.  The charts from DSLStats are relatively clean and nothing leading up to or right after this latest DLM event indicate any issue, guess DLM is still working to ease up the line.  The only difference is my cross-talking neighbor has gone away earlier this week and turned off the modem as they always do, which provides me with a boost in SNR for DL.  DLM has never reacted when they turn on or off in the past.  I have identified with certainty which neighbor it is, if I have a reboot/reset when they are online I can lose up to 10Mbps on the DL sync, at least up until the 29th which I easily get back by waiting until they go away and resync then.  With the current INP applied on the DL there was very little impact on SNR when they switched off.

Here's the Stats up to 29 September event:
            Downstream   Upstream
Line attenuation (dB):     11.9      0.0
Signal attenuation (dB):   Not monitored
Connection speed (kbps):   76634      19999
SNR margin (dB):           6.4      7.4
Power (dBm):               13.9      -0.6
Interleave depth:          8      1
INP:                       47.00      0
G.INP:                     Enabled      Not enabled
Vectoring status:          5 (VECT_UNCONFIGURED)

RSCorr/RS (%):             0.0005      0.0001
RSUnCorr/RS (%):           0.0000      0.0000
ES/hour:                   0      45.0

I don't have the detailed Bearer 0 for this one.
