I’d like to see that, but not local to me.

Does remind me not long ago, driving through Oxfordshire, heard a low flying plane.   It screamed  by a couple of times before I had the chance to look up and see what looked very much like a vintage Meteor jet.    Surely not?   

Turns out that the company that makes ejection seats have a couple of specially adapted meteors that they use for live ejector testing (using dummies).  So not my imagination after all.  Not sure what I’d have thought if they’d fired an ejector seat while I watched, but I don’t suppose they do that over Oxfordshire.

Not to near to me but I heard the roar of the two Rolls-Royce RB199 Mk 103 turbofan engines (Three Tornado's today so Six engines) some roar  .
I think they did a practice run last week, I am about 15 Miles from the National Memorial Arboretum  near Burton Upon Trent Stafford-shire.

Yes there are still some  Meteor jets that are air worthy.

@tickmike, since we both clearly share at least a passing interest, have you noticed the recent Channel 5 “red arrows” series?

No idea when it was actually shown, I watched it on 5’s catchup, whatever it’s called.   Entertaining, and well made imo.    Even my other half stayed awake.

My wife has piloted a meteor twin trainer jet a few times at a fighter training base near Manchester.

If I have time, I’ll show some photos but apologies, it may not a meteor but it was an ex fighter trainer jet

That’s not a meteor, which were identifiable by twin engines, one mounted on each wing.   Hopefully, somebody more expert than me will identify it...?

Meteors were actually rather retro-looking, being contemporaries of spitfires and other late WW2 airctaft, and the only allied jet to see WW2 combat.   I believe they were especially good at shooting down Hitler’s V1 flying bombs.

It looks very much like a Jet Provost used by the RAF as a jet trainer from 1955 to 1993.

@tickmike you must be vaguely near where I grew up. On a farm at Hollington, Staffordshire  (as opposed to Hollington Derbyshire which is nearby, confusingly) between Uttoxeter and Alton.
