BA - Send ADDBA request.
« on: February 21, 2019, 08:26:30 AM »

I've got a Asus DSL-N16 router that my ISP issued me and I've recently updated the firmware. Everything is working fine apart from the system log is full of  'kernel: BA - Send ADDBA request. StartSeq'.

I cant find much info on what these mean or why there constantly sending requests. Before the firmware was updated this didn't occur.
The connection is working fine though so not a big deal more annoying than anything!

Any help appreciated  :)

Thanks.

No idea what that error message is.

A heads up, if you are on FTTC in the UK and connected to a Huawei cabinet then I believe your modem won't connect with G.INP (aka ReTx/Retransmission).

The DSL chipset in most of the Asus modems is a mediatek chipset and OpenReach have disabled G.INP on these devices.

If you are on Huawei cabinet you are missing out on a great form of error protection and the ability of DLM to lower the SNRM target (noise margin) which can provide a nice speed boost.

It's not such a big issue on ECI cabinets.

A quick Google found this https://mrncciew.com/2014/11/01/cwap-802-11-block-ack/, which suggests it's something to do with QoS initialisation.
To be honest most of it goes straight over my head, but it might be of use.

Cheers for the heads up I didn't know that! Why would Openreach do that? So annoying!
Will look into getting a Broadcom based modem I think  :)

I don't think Openreach would - it looks like it's coming from your end.
Perhaps the new firmware has added extra functionality that now now needs a tweak.

Would be nice if there was an easy way to see if it has been applied the line.

Blame Asus. They are the ones who picked the MediaTek chipset.
It's a horrible chipset that doesn't adhere to many of the standards and was obviously causing issues with G.INP active.

OpenReach have a list of approved modems and the Asus (or any Asus) isn't on the list.
Your ISP should also take some of the blame for issuing them.

If a poorly designed modem is causing issues for everyone else on a cabinet it's right that OpenReach take action.

There was an issue a while ago where a specific modem was breaking the entire DLM on a cabinet. Although the manufacturer name wasn't released  there are many of us who strongly suspect this was Asus devices.

If disabling G.INP on those devices fixed the problem then that's a better solution than OpenReach disabling your connection or forcing you to change equipment.

It's not such a big issue on ECI cabinets.

Unless, of course, it's the reason why G.INP has not appeared at all on ECI Cabinets!

I believe Asus had serious problems with G.INP on ECI cabinets.
The rollout seemed to go okay on Huawei cabinets but a few years later OpenReach have noticed an issue and disabled G.INP for the Asus modems affected.

During the ECI G.INP rollout there was pages and pages of users on the Asus forums who were complaining their modem wouldn't sync with G.INP on ECI cabinets.
The line would sync but without G.INP.
Switching modems would  see G.INP activated.

If my memory serves me right (the forum is now closed) I don't recall a single user who had G.INP on an ECI cabinet on the Asus forums.

There's been no news on ECI G.INP for a long time now.
Looks like they gave up trying.

More's the pity.

I assume the OP is with Origin.

Oh, and welcome to the forum Tomyboy.

Has anyone seen my signature, it seems to have disappeared, along with Openreach turning on G.INP on ECI cabinets ever again.
