VM MDU Installation - video
« on: February 08, 2019, 09:25:36 PM »

I've not seen a video like this before. This is how VM install fibre (is it still docsis or real fibre?) to a MDU.

That looks to me like fibre to each apartment.

In new Protect Lightning areas that had no VM network previously they install FTTP to the property, then coax to the modem.
They use RFOG (Radio Frequency Over Glass).

Expansion in existing areas is still coax.

The same services are sold on both.

CarlT is the HFC expert amongst us. It's not a technology I've ever followed very much.

It's fibre to a media converter within the property and then co-axial cable distribution to a "hub".

In the latter stage of that video, did anyone notice that there is an Openreach case (containing a Huawei HG8011H-20 GPON ternminal and associated BBU) to the right of multi-output plate?

I didn't, no.
I saw a HG8110H-20 though  :P

I like how Virgin have everything hidden in the walls and OpenReach have the world biggest ONT enclosure wall mounted in the middle of the room.

Liberty Global's subsidiary, NTL (trading under money-bag's company name) have had their bulky gubbins installed in a utility cupboard within the property.

To be honest, I'm not impressed with either installation.
