BT Ultrafast: Alternative to the MT992 G.Fast modem coming soon.
« on: February 03, 2019, 01:12:04 PM »

For anyone who didn't manage to pry a MT992 modem from their Openreach engineer & are therefore stuck with the awful BT HomeHub, it's Draytek to the rescue.
Their new range - the Vigor 160 series will include the Vigor 166 which has G.Fast support, due Q2/Q3 depending on location.
Datasheet attached.

Thanks for the info, so we will then have a choice of 2.

Tried doing a search but no indication yet of the UK pricing.

As a guide, The non-G.Fast model (Vigor165) is already out in Europe, selling at around 118 Euro.
Not cheap but then Draytek is quality, & still a lot cheaper than the price people are asking for the MT992 (if you can find one!).

I'd guess an Intel AnyWAN GRX550...

I found this  Draytek Vigor 165 (GRX350 + VRX518, also supports VDSL2-Annex Q),  The 166 may be different...VRX618?

There is also the ZyXEL XMG5101-S10A.

Quote from: ZyXEL
The Zyxel XMG5101-S10A G.fast Bridge Modem provides high-speed G.fast Internet access to meet the market demand for high-performance Gigabit networks. This model also features built-in Ethernet LAN capability that relieves troublesome wiring works. Additionally, it has flexible RJ-11 twisted-pair or coaxial interfaces for G.fast access.

Specifications.

The problem with the ZyXEL XMG5101-S10A, TP-Link GC430-G2v and others is that the makers can't even say if they'll be released to the retail market in Europe, let alone when, Draytek have confirmed the Vigor166.

I've been trying to find the manual for the Technicolour DGA2231 (G.Fast certified) router. Does anyone on the forum have experience with this router? Can it be configured into bridge mode?

Must admit, i have found different models of Draytek modem would connect at different sync rates.

I had a 130 that would sync around 4-5Mb lower than a 2862.

UPDATE: After several months ZyXEL finally released a G.Fast capable wireless router to the EU market, the XMG3927-B50A.
I've been running one for several weeks here in the UK on BT's ultrafast service & its rock solid.
I had to get mine via a German dealer as the main UK supplier seems to be permanently out of stock at the moment.
The good news is that the PSU uses interchangeable plug tops & ZyXEL include both UK & EU, so no adapter required.

Do you mind to share the web-link of that German reseller?

It appears that LambdaTek currently have 34 units (XMG3927-B50A-EU01V1F) in stock, priced at £162-26 (inc. VAT).

I got mine here: https://www.sotel.de/en/home
LambdaTek, the main UK supplier, were nil stock at the time & couldn't give me a restock date.
However, now that they have stock I notice that the price has risen by about £20.

I see Sotel.de (& other EU suppliers) now have the VIGOR 166 G.Fast modem in stock, so far I can't find any UK suppliers.
Draytek are probably still waiting for BT/Openreach to sign off on it for use on their network.
