I wouldn't update the firmware to v28 as it blocks access to the Supervisor password.
When your up and running we can help you get the Supervisor password, then you can upgrade firmware.

Keep this simple. Start again.

Reset the unit. Poke something suitable like a paper clip in the reset hole while the unit is powered on. You will hear/feel a button being clicked. Keep this pressed until the lights on the unit change.

You only need to change a single section to get online.

Kitz has a good guide with an image of suggested settings. IPv6 isn't used on Plusnet but it shouldn't hurt to enable it as in kitz guide.

If you wish change Wireless passwords.
Telnet can be enabled under "Maintenance > Remote Management".

The rest of the router is pretty advanced and doesn't need touched unless you know what you're doing.

I think you may have been confusing IGMP and ICMP above. ICMP is for responding to pings.
IGMP is for YouView multicast IPTV channels.
I would leave the IGMP settings well alone.

edit: too slow at typing

I see the Broadband screen, mentioned by Kitz, but not the WAN Configuration Edit
by j0hn. I have attached images additional to those posted earlier that have no indications of or to that . I am absolute confused where to find it.  >:(

IT's also damned awkward having to keep swapping routers to post, try again with the Zyxel , then back and forth. I can't see away around it, unless I could have two DSL cables.

You need the 'broadband' tab (the leftmost one) of the Broadband screen you have highlighted for the WAN config.
Also, you don't have to the Zyxel connected to your phone line to configure it - in fact it's probably best done offline and then plug it in try it.

You said you had to keep swapping backwards and forwards between the Plusnet router and the Zyxel, which I assumed meant you were taking one off the phone line and connecting the other.
Did you mean that you only have one PC/Laptop that you can use to do the configuration and that you are having to keep moving it between the devices?
I always configure routers before I connect them to the phone line using a laptop that I plug directly into the router. But then I have access to more than one PC/Laptop.

We're crinkly primitives. All we have is the desktop, printer, IPad, and Internet radio.
Not very useful, I'd think.

As to connecting, I followed j0hn's red ink trail

I hope all is readable and correct, because I am seeing (attachment) and can't connect.
Confusingly, the router has 2.4G and 5G SSIDs but all that shows in set-up is 2.4G. Does it matter which SSID I've entered? Both appear as active in the router lights. I presume the two modes do not run seamlessly side by side.

Can any of the above point to my problem?

The two modes do run at the same time (the default setting) or you can turn one or both off (in which case no WiFi) if you wish.

Both the 2.4G and 5G SSIDs are independent - in that you can give each its own name and password etc.

To configure the 5G one:

- go the page with the 2.4G settings (Network Setting/Wireless)
- under the 'general' tab, you will see "Wireless Network Setup"
- the first option under that is 'Band'.
- This box displays "2.4GHz" but you can change the dropdown box to 5GHz and it will load the 5Ghz admin settings page instead

Thanks gt94sss2! Just to be sure: i know my wife's IPad is 5G, but most other apps etc are 2.4G, and both types are in action at the same time. How is that catered for?

I must be El Stupidissimo, but the useless Plusnet Hub does not require two SSIDs, and I get confused easily. :(

For all My efforts will continue later today.

Your PlusNet router probably joins the 2.4GHz and 5GHz band SSIDs so that devices choose which one to connect to using something called 'band steering'. In theory this is good but many find that in practice it causes problems, so separate the bands using two different SSIDs.  As far as I know the Zyxel does not support band steering (although I've never tried having duplicate SSIDs to see what happens), so the 2.4GHz and 5GHz SSIDs are separate by default.  This allows you to choose which band each device uses.

Thanks, very interesting. IIRC I used the 5G SSID.

Back to the ZyXEL grindstone!

I amended the ISP log in details, and disabled Ethernet enabling the wireless connection.(pic 1)

ZyXEL appeared in available networks, and I connected, but there's no internet. (pic 2). Anything Windows diagnostics suggested was ineffective. Could it be related to Home Network settings? (pic 3)

My DNS settings in the Broadband section are those  Plusnet provided when I joined them.

Home network settings -DNS has 4 options. If my further problem does relate. what should be in the DNS section, please?

The simplest thing to do is just choose "Dynamic" under DNS Server.

However, if you wanted to you could choose something like static and list

8.8.8.8
8.8.8.4

which are Google's DNS servers.

However, your problem doesn't seem to be DNS related - as that woudn't stop the modem authenticating with the DSLAM.

EDIT: I have just realized you are looking under the Home Networking section - leave those as Dynamic. In fact, you don't really want to touch any of the settings on that page.. (at least not until you're online properly).
