Query: Infill AIO Cabinets
« on: May 09, 2018, 09:46:36 AM »

Gentlefolk,

I would like to estimate how many All-In-One cabinets have been placed on D side lines AFTER a VDSL cabinet has been installed by the original PCP.
If anybody knows of such configurations I'd love to know.
(I do know of one outside Borwick Hall in Lancashire where the first DSLAM is close to Carnforth Cabinet 6 at a point along the A6 Road.)

Kind regards,
Walter

Hi Walter.

I know of one - see my thread: https://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,22995.0.html - it's been built in the past two weeks and today the BTW DSL checker was updated to show my line is served by it (only it's not - it's awaiting a live-to-live migration). According to https://www.telecom-tariffs.co.uk/codelook.htm?xid=343802&cabinets=12373 it's been built as part of the Superfast Extension Programme (SEP). Prior to this there were lines connected to my cabinet (7) that were too far away to receive VDSL, and dozens that could get it but were below the magic 24Mbps target.

Cheers,

Bobsta

Hi Walter,

I also know of one, though this is perhaps a little different to what you are thinking of and is also in the same area as your example. Cabinet 19 on Carnforth exchange is an AIO which my line passes through. It is located here https://goo.gl/maps/Vhvvzjh862D2 just behind the manhole covers in the pavement (streetview not up to date). Before the AIO was put there the BT Wholesale checker stated that I could get VDSL2 with a predicted speed around 19Mbps from a cabinet directly outside the exchange itself (I don't remember the cabinet number, but it might have been 13 or 14 and is possibly this https://goo.gl/maps/xh2fYay1AvM2). Before this however, I'm fairly sure my line was an exchange-only line, and these cabinets were added to allow those close to the exchange to get the higher VDSL2 speeds. I believe was done at a few other exchanges (e.g. https://community.plus.net/t5/ADSL-Broadband/Cabinets-installed-outside-exchange-FTTC-possible/td-p/1103456) that have quite a lot of short EO lines.

In summary, my line went from being EO, to having a new PCP and VDSL cabinet installed outside the exchange, to also having an AIO installed around 1km away.

I do know of one outside Borwick Hall in Lancashire where the first DSLAM is close to Carnforth Cabinet 6 at a point along the A6 Road.
This is also a rather interesting one as the cabinet is here https://goo.gl/maps/YHCfNoXSxF62. This PCP has to be relatively new too because before the Water's Edge lodge park was built (perhaps around 15 years ago) Borwick Lane went straight across the A6 at that point as a crossroads, meaning the PCP would have been in the middle of the road if it was there! Presumably it was put there for the provision of telephone lines to the lodges, with the VDSL cabinet being added later.

Edit: Whoops, sorry this is a rather old thread. Better late than never I guess!

Not to worry. It was the prompt I needed to split these posts off from the original thread and adjust the subject line, so creating a new topic in Walter's name.  :)
