New ZYXEL VMG8924-B10A Wireless Connectivity issues
« on: December 31, 2018, 10:47:39 PM »

Hi all

I got my 8924 today and its a great bit of kit full of options & it's feature rich, my sync is about 1.7Mbps less (about 2.5% slower) but I am fine with that, the firmware has been updated to the latest version and on both versions the wifi does not work on my mobile, the networks are broadcasting but when its connecting after entering the password it says 'AUTHENTICATION PROBLEM' on my Sony L1, all settings are factory default

both networks are enabled, on reasonable channels and no channel bonding either (doesn't work with it on either)

anyone got any idea?

thanks

turns out the password IN the router didn't display the last 2 digits, the password on the router works - problem solved

edit: one of my neighbours 2.4Ghz networks is called TV LICENSING lol... so I called both mine:

2.4Ghz = NORTHUMBRIA POLICE
5.0Ghz = TYNESIDE COUNCIL

give the neighbours something to giggle at

haha

Other WiFi network names, if you tire of your current choices, could be GCHQ and NSA:D

 :D :D :D

I am going to change them to funny qoutes every week lol....

on a more serious note, I am having issues getting the USB accessible from the Zyxell to the PC (windows 10),  I have a USB stick on it and enabled MEDIA SERVER and FILE SHARING, when I click on Media Server in Windows 10 Network List it opens a web page saying -

"This 192.168.1.1 page can’t be found
No webpage was found for the web address: http://192.168.1.1:2468/webs/html_root/index.html"

you wouldn't happen to have any Idea what it could be?

Sorry, no. I don't use the USB options of my VMG1312-B10A. Perhaps other members will be able to make suggestions?  :-\

I don't use the USB port but you may need to enable SMB 1.0 in Windows 10

Just been playing with USB on my 8924 and I get the same result with the web address but I can see the media player on my network and can access it via Windows media Player (right click on the media player for options).

is it not possible to share everything within the USB drive?  rather than only allowing media players access to music or video

It should be,yes. This explains how - https://support.zyxel.eu/hc/en-us/articles/360001390414-USB-File-Sharing-on-VMG-devices - but I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

For the purposes of forum organisation and my own reading, might it not be easier to keep this all in one thread?

The same issue yes. He's had a number of different questions which have correctly spanned different sub forums.
This is the only hardware related thread he's created and is in the correct section.

Just a quick "did you know..."
The connection being idle or used will make no difference to the xDSL error rates.

If I connect my modem to the cabinet, with no router and no PPP, I'd get roughly the same errors as if my router was connected and using the full line speed.
