Erratic Line again !
« on: December 17, 2018, 08:43:40 PM »

Friends

Helpful folk who helped me sort this line earlier in the year may remember, particularly @kitz and @blacksheep. Thanks. Until now its been stable, but its all fallen apart tonight  :o

On the best advise of @blacksheep I have tried to be pragmatic, but the line has dropped out 4 times in the last 2 hours and the stats look all over the place. Before I ring the ISP (Again) any kind thoughts as what I might say. The phone line is clear and there are no extension wiring on this circuit. It looks to me a "Noise" issue, but nothing here has changed, we haven't even put put up the Christmas Tree yet, so no problem with lights or timers

I'm  uploading the current stats (and they are being uploaded ever 5 minutes for the moment) to

http://www.west-lodge.com/adsl/index.htm

Thanks on advice I will ring PN tomorrow

Tony

Certainly something "happened" just after 1700 hours this afternoon/evening. But it's not too obvious what . . .  :-\

It looks to me a "Noise" issue, but nothing here has changed, we haven't even put put up the Christmas Tree yet, so no problem with lights or timers

Ah but it might be a neighbour's Christmas lights  -- anywhere along the path of the circuit from your home to the PCP and, eventually, the exchange based DSLAM.

I dot suppose OR will look at issues like that, as I suspect any line test will not fail ?

Thanks

Yes, I doubt that any test on the physical circuit (the metallic pathway) will fail.

As I thought. So is OR / ISP under any obligation ? It’s a difficult issue I appreciate, but the connection is barely useable ( even without any knowledge of the stats) Am I right to assume interference !

Knowing the past history of the circuit and coupled with the current time of the year, I strongly suspect that it is "seasonal noise" . . . electrical noise generated by flashing lights.

It might be best to report your observations, that the circuit is unstable, to the ISP/CP and see how they respond.

Thanks @bcat will do that tomorrow when the morning rush passes ! However I wonder why my VDSL line is un affected, appreciate the frequency range is extended, but would have expected some disruption to the common range !

xDSL is a very mysterious entity.  :D

Your ADSL2+ circuit has a metallic pathway from you, via the PCP, to the exchange building.
Your VDSL2 circuit has a metallic pathway from you to the cabinet based DSLAM, via the tie-cables to/from the PCP.

There is a longer length of cable for the former when compare with the latter. Once the two circuits have left your home, they may actually transit in different D-side cables to the PCP. It may be that your ADSL2+ circuit is "close" to another circuit radiating "noise" within the cable.

Of course, I forgot the ADSL2 goes all the way to the exchange hence exposure to noise in different places. The SNRM is still all over the place but it’s stayed in sync.

Will report as advised and update here.

Thanks

looks like some kind of interference affecting the upstream, as to what absolutely no idea, but christmas tree lights like burakkucat said might be the case given the time of the year.

I turned the uploading off to my web site at around 0050. But the interference continued until around 0332 when the line returned to normal. I have had PN check the line, whilst they can see the drops (9) in total, no fault found. I'm going to leave it and see if it repeats tonight.

As I said above I guess its not near the property as the VDSL line is fine, so presumably the interference isn't on the run to the cabinet but beyond.

Do BtOR actually do anything about this type of interference ? I guess it’s difficult as an engineer coming outside the dark hours wouldn’t even see the high CRC,s Do people actually turn Christmas lights off at 0330 ;D
Thanks

What could actually be done, that is the question.

Your plan of action, to keep monitoring the status of the circuit, is really all one can do.

Exactly and that’s what I’m doing  ???
