Strange happening on my W7 system today
« on: November 17, 2018, 09:51:13 AM »

For some reason best known to itself my W7 system (only one I have) said it may not be genuine today. It has been running now for a couple of years since installed and validated but I don't allow it to update. Any ideas please?

I don't allow it to update.

Perhaps that's the problem.

OK but that would annoy me, I see no reason to update a PC which is working perfectly running two or three apps 24x7.

I am now getting angry with all this. I have two genuine COAs for W7 Home Premium neither of which validate and when I try to go online to do it the page does not exist! There seems to be no way to get a UK phone number to contact and get this resolved. Very frustrating especially as the system was originally validated fine when I first installed it.

Seems like I am unable to buy a new key for Windows 7 from Microsoft - I refuse to use Windows 10 which seems to be the only way forward.

Hi broadstairs

This may help a little and should at least let you have a Microsoft telephone number

Many thank

may i suggest you simply update windows 7?
windows 7 can still be activated using valid keys (assuming windows 7 i fully up to date).

so either your keys are dodgy or you need to update.

running an out-of-date windows 7 is foolhardy at best.

Do you connect the PC to the internet and then visit any websites? Do you ever receive any emails? If so there is EVERY reason to keep it updated!

I've tried everything mentioned here but actually talking to a person which I guess is the next thing. Sadly I suspect some how my key has been cloned as it has worked OK for the past couple of years. As for not updating it has never been an issue as it is never used for accessing the net or web browsing, it runs 3 applications one of which ftp's to my web site and one which downloads data from specific sites for weather data, but it's pure data.

I did look to see if I could purchase a new key for W7 from Microsoft but they only want to sell a W 10 key which I will never use as W7 is perfect for my needs.

There are plenty of places selling them, and claiming that they are genuine legal product keys.

There is a problem right now causing windows 10 to deactivate, but I have not heard of it affecting windows 7, seems very strange, and I will take your word for it that it is a legit license.

But it is accessing the internet, and not having it up to date is foolhardy.

Also it needs internet access to activate

Didn't the telephone activation work?  I'm not sure if it's one of those type of calls where if you don't press anything you get to talk to a person.
