dee jay

I would if i could figure out how to do it in the HG612 as it would not allow me to change 0 to 255 in 255.255.255.0. My Airport T C/ Router will not allow me to change subnet either as this is the subnet from BT.

If anyone else uses Apple product perhaps they could advise Apple Community forum, i don't get any response.

On the HG612:
  • Connect your PC direct to LAN2 on the HG612
  • Set the IP on your PC to 192.168.1.100
  • Open the modem UI using http://192.168.1.1
  • On the left select Basic then LAN (1 then 2 in screenshot)
  • In the LAN Host Settings change the IP address (3 in screenshot) from 192.168.1.1 to 10.0.1.1 (make sure you get this right or you will not be able to access the modem afterwards - it would probably need a factory reset)
  • Click submit - you will lose the connection to the modem
  • Change the IP of your PC to 10.0.1.100 and you will be able to access the modem again to confirm access
  • Now set the IP of your PC back to normal (probably automatic)
  • Connect LAN2 to a LAN port on the Airport and LAN1 to it's WAN port.

The subnet mask (255.255.255.0) is a red herring.
Leave this as is on the HG612.

Follow jelvs advice and it should work.

On the HG612:
Connect your PC direct to LAN2 on the HG612
Set the IP on your PC to 192.168.1.100  OK ethernet
Open the modem UI using http://192.168.1.1 OK
On the left select Basic then LAN (1 then 2 in screenshot) OK
In the LAN Host Settings change the IP address (3 in screenshot) from 192.168.1.1 to 10.0.1.1 (make sure you get this right or you will not be able to access the modem afterwards - it would probably need a factory reset) OK
Click submit - you will lose the connection to the modem Didn't loose connection
Change the IP of your PC to 10.0.1.100 and you will be able to access the modem again to confirm access Changed PC to 10.0.1.100  i was able to access admin using  10.0.1.1  after i have changed PC ethernet  to o see screenshot
Now set the IP of your PC back to normal (probably automatic) When I set it back to DHCP IP changes to 10.0.1.3 see screen shot.
Connect LAN2 to a LAN port on the Airport and LAN1 to it's WAN port. Connected cable .Connected  but i still cannot access Admin modem on Lan 2 see screenshot

I am not sure where i am going wrong.

After you changed the modems IP you said you didn't lose the connection. Did you try refreshing the page or clicking one of the other links?

What's the IP address of the Airport and can you see the DHCP range? Have you any other devices which have an IP of 10.0.1.1?

Jelv

I really appreciate your help and  replies & advice

I just logged out of the modem. the DHCP range is 10.0.1.2 - 10.0.1.200

I did a Ip scan, please see attached screenshot it show that the Airport Time capsule is 10.0.1.1, iMac 10.0.1.3 perhaps  i should change ATC to 10.0.1.4 ?

 Thanks again

Hi

I would just change hg612 to 10.0.1.254. Leave everything else as is and you would access hg612 via http://10.0.1.254

As both ATC and hg612 are using 10.0.1.1, you will need to turn off ATC and hardwire your connection to 10.0.1.xxx subnet 255.255.255.0 then reset hg612, then reset your network back to DHCP, so it is assigned its range from 10.0.1.xxx and you should be able to access ATC by 10.0.1.1 and hg612 by 10.0.1.254

That is assuming you do not have any device using 10.0.1.254 already. If you do change 10.0.1.254 to a different IP in that range you know is not used

Many thanks

the Airport Time capsule is 10.0.1.1

That explains it! We should have asked you for the ATC's IP address before.  :-[

I concur with John, using the procedure I gave before change the IP address of the HG612 to 10.0.1.254. Using 254 will take it out of the DHCP range (using a number in the DHCP range could cause other issues).

Doing it that way is far simpler than messing about with the ATC settings which I think would also need you to adjust the DHCP range. Also if any of your devices were not using automatic settings you'd need to change the gateway address in their configuration. As it's only the modem that you are having issues with, change that and leave everything else well alone.

Hi mikey

Changing the hg612 IP address to 10.0.1.254 would not brick it

The worse case is you cannot cannot connect

A hard reset simply means you have to start from the very beginning

Are you sure you changed the hg612 to .254 and not the ATC

Can you open xterminal and ping 10.0.1.1 and then 10.0.1.254

10.0.1.254 though if hg612 hard reset should not ping but 10.0.1.1 should ping been the ATC

So I would unplug the hg612 from network, check your ATC is pingable and useable on 10.0.1.1 and everything works as expected. Then start from a fresh flashing the hg612 as previous and using jelv instructions to set the hg612 to 10.0.1.254 before you plug the hg612 into your network. Only plug the hg612 into your network when you have correctly set it to 10.0.1.254 and tested login to it

Many thanks

Thanks all for help , I don't know how but i have bricked my HG612. I have tried numerous time to reset the hg612 without any luck . after 45 minutes waiting  to make sure that the upgrade has completed. It will connect connect to 192.168.1.1. It states cannot connect to internet.

Connected back to ATC Airport OK but no internet connection.
May be the reset function is now faulty?
Connected BThubsmart  back up until i can get new modem with out ATC.

No a clue what i have done.

 Thanks again to all.

Hi Mikey

Sorry you have not brocked the hg612, as you state you can connect to it so it sounds like you have changed the wan side of things.

If that is the case, and you can connect to hg612 admin login page, and you use xdsl (not adsl), then please see 2 pictures attached.

You need to set the hg612 into bridge mode as per wan picture save and reboot hg612 (I know but belts and braces), log back in and set the lan side as picture/text save and reboot.

Test to make sure you can see login screen on http://10.0.1.254 before you plug the hg612 into your network

If the hg612 is connected to the phone line, the dsl sync light should be solid green - make sure you have your nework cables connected correctly (wan to wan and lan2 to lan) when you connect it back to your network.  Best advise, follow Jelv instructions to make sure you pass over the correct pppoe connection credentials as the hg612 is in bridge mode

Many thanks

 HI d2d4j

Thanks for your reply, Sorry if you misunderstood my  previous comments.  I tried to reset the modem with the upgrade and I left it upgrading for over an hour.I have tried on a windows 10 computer and my iMac but i am not able to get into the admin of the modem following  what i hope the upgrade had finished. Solid green lights Power and Lan2

Then i tried to log into 192.168.1.1 after changing both my iMac and Windows 10 ips to 192.168.1.100 No joy both stated internet no available.

So I connected the modem to ATC see if the standard software was there but without success. My ATC  shows that there is no internet access. This is why i feel  that some how i bricked it. I know the DSL is working as the BT smart hub is running.

Is there i reset for standard modem ?

Hi mikey

Many thanks

Did you do a hard reset of hg612. If so you need to reflash hg612

Also, so your aware of not, you do not need the hg612 connected to phone line to do this. Just connect lan2 to your switch or use a crossover cable for hg612 to win10 pc (unless the hg612 is autosensing for switch or pc)

Then set your pc to 192.168 ip as previous and then put the hg612 to load the flash screen.

When hg612 reboots, login and make/check the changes as it should be correctly defaulted on wan side, so you just need to change the lan ip as per picture. Reboot hg612 and change your win10 pc network to 10.0.1.40, and confirm access to 10.0.1.254 for login screen

Disconnect lan cable from win10 pc, plug lab cable into your switch and change win10 network back to dhcp.

Now hg612 should be accessible to mac pc but without internet

At this point you can put the phone line into the hg612 and connect lan1 to ATC and as long as ATC is configured for pppoe connection, broadband should come live

Many thanks

 John

Thanks for reply, the problem could be that i am NOT using a crossover cable only a standard ethernet cable supplied  by BT with router ?
