How long did you wait for your line to get G.INP?
« on: November 04, 2018, 01:56:12 PM »

Hi All,

I think this is my first thread on Kitz but have been a member reading useful information for a long time.  Be gentle........

When I first ordered FTTC on 22/09/2018, G.INP was instated in around 3 days and I was getting 80/20 MB speed.

My ISP sent an engineer to fix a problem on my line. Engineer did a port change and a DLM reset.

How long have you had to wait for G.INP to be re-instated after a DLM reset?

Also, it looks like modems report attenuation differently.  On my DSL-AC88U it is displayed as 18.1 dB but on DSL-3782 and HG633 it is 12.2 dB.  Is it normal to have such a big difference?

Is there a way to estimate distance from DSLAM like it was possible with ADSL using attenuation?

Were you using the Asus when you got G.INP the first time round?

I know they no longer apply G.INP to the Asus DSL-AC68U though I would hope the DLM can differentiate between the two devices.

All modems use their own calculations to determine attenuation. The Asus seems much different but I've no experience of that model.

G.INP usually returns within 2-3 days of a DLM reset. Occasionally we see it take much longer but this has been reported less and less recently.

You could try using another modem for 2-3 days and see if that makes any difference. You could then swap back you using the Asus if that works.

Final thought, can you issue the command

xdslcmd info --Vendor

Post the results here for us.
There's a horrible type of port swap you don't want to get.

I think I was using the HG633 when G.INP was enabled, cannot be certain as it doesn't display this in the stats.

Whilst using the DSL-AC88U it did reduce my SNR from 6 dB to 5 dB and then to 4dB.  The 5dB actually gave me close to 80/20 MB.

I think Telnet is disabled on the DSL-AC88U firmware.

What information did you want from xdslcmd info --Vendor

I had another Openreach engineer visit who this time performed a DLM reset using his phone.  Straight away G.INP activated.  After 24 hours my stats are attached.  Does this look stable?

What version of Asus is that? If it's the 68U, you lose it soon.

This is with the DSL-AC88U with the broadcom BCM63138 chipset

Can you clarify what DSL-AC68U users will lose soon?

Apparently the DSL-AC68U is not supported for G.INP by Openreach.  After you connect it, within 24 hours DSLAM disables G.INP.

I'm aware of that (I brought it up on the first reply).
The DSL-AC68U would not have G.INP activated in the first place though.

It would seem very backwards for DLM to enable it then remove it 24 hours later.

If you used a router that is supported to get G.INP activated in the first instance, does it get deactivated on first initialisation with the DSL-AC68U?  Or does it take 24 hours for the unsupported router to be detected and G.INP to be deactivated?

I had two instances of G.INP being enabled on my line with the DSL-AC68U, once after a DLM reset and then after using an Openreach Device and then reconnecting the Asus.

On both occasions, G.INP was removed after 24/36 hours.
