Jon21’s migration to Sky
« on: October 26, 2018, 09:02:13 PM »

Thought I’d start a new thread to keep things in one place with regards to my migration to Sky. Was previously with AAISP. Can’t fault AAISP. I knew roughly on Wednesday when I was about to be switched to Sky as I could see the various inputs in the AAISP control panel, i.e “test line called” etc.

Currently syncing at 69/16 Mbps. Interleaving is currently being applied, INP 3 Delay 8 (will get some stats later on). Should improve a bit once interleaving is removed.

Seemed to possibly be a routing issue(?) on Wednesday/Thursday. Nothing major but has caused a slight increase in latency. Did ask Sky on Twitter but they didn’t have any known issues. I guess I could send an email to their NOC team but I wouldn’t know how to word it and I’m pretty sure it’s not for consumers.

Had a resync around 8:30am and interleaving has now been removed. Sync speeds are back to what they were before the migration.

Not sure what is going on with the conection today, graph is showing oddities from 1pm ish. Can't seem to get more than 10Mb/s  :( Still syncing at the same speeds as the previous stats. Have asked Sky on Twitter.

Weirdly, still getting decent ping times to BBC, Google etc.

Edit: I think I might of sorted it. I restarted the Pfsense router (multiple times  ::)) and speeds returned back to normal. I did get a new IP address, so possibly on a different part of Sky's network. Why it took multiple restarts to sort it I don't know. The only thing I can think of, is that the link between the modem and the router was negotiating at 10Mb despite Pfsense reporting 100 Full Duplex (100Mb lan ports on the Zyxel 1312-B10A?). Would kind of explain the around 10Mb/s speed test.

Didn’t want to start a new thread. I’ve been with Sky nearly 18 months now. Everything has worked well in that time. Price is going to jump up to £47.99 from next month. I’ve also been notified of a price rise today. Can’t really be bothered with haggling so was thinking of moving to Zen. Now I’ve had notification of a price increase, can I just start the process of migrating to Zen?
