How Do My Line Stats Look?
« on: October 15, 2018, 02:41:18 PM »

Hi all,

A couple of quick questions and some help if possible:-

* I'd really appreciate it if someone could cast their eye over my line stats and let me know their thoughts. I've just set up a PI to capture everything 24/7 but wasn't sure exactly what needed posting from DSLStats?
* What is the lowest SNR Margin? I don't have much knowledge when it comes to this type of stuff but for some reason thought it was 3. I've therefore been pretty surprised to see it occasionally below - I think I've seen it at either 2.6 or 2.8 for a few seconds before it quickly moves back to higher than this

Also, as far as set up and other info:

* According to 'Magenta Systems Code Lookup' facility I'm apparently on a Huawei cabinet at a distance of 3.512km (sounds far to long?)
* If I do a postcode search based on info from the above, the distance is actually 0.96km if roads are used but I'm guessing there's no guarantee the line follows this route? (I've haven't yet visually confirm the cabinet location)
* The external box is a 66B with 1A inserts running CW1724 (which contains 2 pairs of twisted cable) for ~10m to a MK3 NTE5C socket which has one extension
* A HG612 (B030SP08 FW) is connected directly to the NTE5C via a Tandy 0.5m RJ11 to RJ11 cable
* The HG612 is then connected via a 0.5m Cat6 cable to a ASUS RT-AC68U router (384.7 ASUSMerlin FW)
* According to the BT Wholesale site, VDSL Un-Impacted Range A gives max and min DL and UL of  44 to 31.8 and 7.8 to 5.3. Impacted Range B is 36.9 to 20.3 and 7.3 to 3.7
* ISP is Origin who, up to ~3 weeks ago gave me a Vodafone username whereas ~3 weeks ago they asked me to change it to an Origin username which triggered a change to my external IP?

Let me know if you need anything else?

Thanks

Magenta gives distance from exchange, at least in theory, but the postcodes for PCPs are not always accurate; experienced. ::)

Usually the telnet line stats summary  &  Live SNRMargin  to see how stable the line is.
Also QLN, Hlog and possibly bit loading if there may be a problem

Thanks renluop - I thought it looked too far to be the cabinet  :'(

Thanks kitz - I hopefully attached the things you need (I've only added the most recent 'snapshots' and txt files, which look pretty consistent with others captured 24/7 over the last few days)

All I see are plots for a "longish" line, one which can only make use of the US0, DS1, US1 and DS2 bands. There has been a significant DSPBO applied to all VDSL2 (ITU-T G.993.2) circuits originating from that cabinet, to allow for ADSL2+ (ITU-T G.992.5) circuits originating from the serving telephony exchange.

There is nothing I can see that stands out, like a "smoking gun".

Thanks burakkucat,

Good to know there's nothing jumping out as a problem.

What is DSPBO?

DSPBO is Downstream Power Backoff. It is not synonymous with USPBO (since that is used for backoff for upstream) but it is still Power Backoff (PBO). It is employed to reduce impact on pre-existing ADSLx services that co-exist with VDSL2 (so essentially what b*cat said, so I feel like a parrot now :D). You can see that it has taken a small chunk out of your D1 band, but there is nothing you can do about that so don't worry. :)

Edit: Just to add some clarity, DSPBO is also known as DPBO, and USPBO is also known as UPBO.

Thanks.

I did get that it reduced impact on ADSL, and was more wondering about the what/how part so thanks for Power Back off explanation  :)

I wish it was as simple as I make it out to be, but I don't understand the workings of it. :no:
