Direct connection over VNC which is about the limit of my knowledge / capability.

I have 3 headless Pi's, and access them using the inbuilt RealVNC server. Normally connection is direct from within the LAN, but I have a registered account with RealVNC, which gives me remote access to up to 5 devices from anywhere that has internet access. No configuration or technical knowledge is required (thank goodness!)

Yes indeed, same setup here, in fact it was yourself who pointed me in the direction of RealVNC free registration, currently 3 RPi's registered also, works very well apart from the recent anomaly with the Billion 8800NL r2 as reported.
