Interesting (or otherwise) facts.
« on: October 04, 2018, 12:45:11 PM »

You may, (or absolutely may not) be interested to read these statistics that made up part of the internal campaign about our newly formed Openreach.

We have ....

5.5k Telephone Exchanges

Largest Exchange is Oldham with 45,523 circuits ..... the smallest is Papa Stour in the Shetlands with just 14 circuits.

47m telegraph poles.

98k Copper Cabinets

82k Fibre Cabs

Our copper and fibre cables (length) combines are 3,787 x bigger than the UK rail network.

In my case it would inspire me to initiate the eternal debate, for which everybody likes me...

...Would it maybe be more concise to say ”3,788 x the size of the UK rail network” ?   I think that means the same as ”3,787 x bigger than the UK rail network”.

Oddly, I don’t get invited to many such cocktail parties, these days.   Not sure why. :D

Fascinating facts, thanks for the insight. So what does “BT” do now the Tecnical separation has come about ?

In a nutshell .............. nowt.

BT PLC own the silver ...................... Openreach are nothing more than a body of people. Watch as 'T&C creep'  occurs over the next few years and we all become contractors. TF I won't be here as a willing participant. Retirement does have its positive side.  ;) ;D

Perhaps the recent TV advertising “Be There” for BT hints at a rebranding?  :)

Another one ....

There are a few massive infrastructure builds going on in the UK at the moment .... such as the nuclear reactors as Hinckley Point and HS2 ..... only HS2 is a bigger build than the Ultrafast Network currently being worked on.
