New FTTC system in daughters flat
« on: September 15, 2018, 12:25:07 PM »

Said daughter in is Dubai  till October when she will be back for a week

She has just bought a flat in Whitstable and ordered  Plusnet broadband

This was installed yesterday by a BT Engineer

As yet nobody really knows where the phone extensions are in respect to power sockets so the router has been installed in the hall where both are free and close(ish)

BT used a non filtered faceplate and the filter from the router box but has left the filtered faceplate should it be needed

His explanation slightly confused me, I was under the impression that with a filtered faceplate that was the only filter required, he was saying that filters would be requied on any extensions

So I thought I would come to where the real experts live and ask them

Your impression is correct. Do you know exactly what model of faceplate it is?

Possibly a mis-understanding of future requirements ???

With you mentioning other extension sockets inside the apartment, it could be interpreted as your daughter may wish to use one of those sockets for the router, not the one where it is located now, in the hallway ?? if that was the case, then you would indeed need to use the plug-in microfilters.

If the one in the hallway is the master socket, and she decides she wants to leave the router sited there, then it is simply a case of removing the current faceplate and replacing it with the filtered faceplate ...... 5 seconds work at best.  :)

Hope this makes sense ???

I have no idea what models the faceplates are, sorry

Your reply mirrors what the BT chap was saying except that he said it in a roundabout sort of way, I think his mind was on the holiday in Budapest starting today

I will pass this on to her, she will lose/forget it

Many thanks
