Would someone be kind enough to tell me which side is downstream and which is upstream errors? I don't normally look at line stats as my line has been pretty stable but when modem lost connection the other day I saw quite a few errors. Do this look like normal behavior?

Thanks in advance.

If you look under the line headed "Training Status:" you'll see 'Down' and 'Up' which applies to every line below having two values.

To get a proper view of the performance you would need to install DSLstats and leave it running for some time, preferably > 24 hours. But looking at the snapshot there's nothing particularly remarkable. G.Inp is enabled on the downstream. DLM has lowered your target SNRM to its lowest value, 3 dB, and this has probably led to some increase in the error rate. But ~500 ES per day (see the section at the end) is OK but not perfect.

Thanks Eric :) Didn't spot that my eye sight must not be as good as I though it was haha

I'm quite a techy guy but don't know much about vdsl, it would be nice to know a bit more about how the technology works though. What is the cause of Upstream ES are they errors coming from the cabinet or my equipment? I remember looking at my stats earlier in the year (my first post on this forum) and seeing errors mainly on the downstream, quite a few in fact and very few on the upstream now this seems to be the other way round what would have changed this?

In last day I have had about 430 upstream ES and no ES on downstream this can be normal then?

Downstream is DSLAM to modem
Upstream is modem to DSLAM.

Usually it is more common to see downstream errors as traditionally it is downstream which uses the higher frequencies.
However VDSL has several frequencies bands (groups of tones), so it can depend on what tones are in use...  or at what frequency there may be EMI/RFI type noise.

An awful lot of Upstream Errors can sometimes be indicative of a HR type fault, but this is also usually accompanied by crackling on the telephone line, or the line dropping when the phone is in use.

The DMT section on the main website more info about the frequency allocations and how it works :)

That figure over the course of a day is considered acceptable by the DLM.
One caveat to be aware of is that some modems don't always reset the upstream errors.

I think the lack of downstream errors is because of G.Inp. It's a very effective error correction system.

Cheers guys will take a look at the DMT section.

Not getting any noise or crackling on the line and braodband stays up when on phone just not sure why I'm seeing a few drops over the last month after been very stable and now the switch in errors. G.INP was actually enabled when I first posted on here about my stats in Feb asking about the errors on the downstream.

I'm guessing if 400-500 upstream es errors a day are ok for the DLM then it isn't these that are causing the line to drop? While one of the them was overnight which didn't really bother me the last one was in the middle of the day while I was working from home so want to be sure it's not going to start becoming a problem i.e more daytime drops. Will just need to keep monitoring it over next few weeks I think.

OK guys i'm still monitoring my line and over the past 24 hours I've had 536 es errors and 570 crc, I just wanted to double check this it normal line conditions and it wouldn't be caused by any interference in the house? It's just I've seen other peoples error stats online with g.inp enabled and they are much lower than mine. I did have my modem connected using a 5m dsl cable but I've moved it closer to the master socket now, also using a much shorter cable but still around the same rates. I use my hg612 with a Cisco RV320 router and a bt whole home wifi 2 disc set

Every line is different and will have different amounts of ES.
Some lines will have G.INP on the upstream so will have very few upstream ES.

It's an acceptable amount and under the DLM threshold.
If they do increase then upstream G.INP will be applied, provided the modem supports it.

I really don't understand what is preventing them enabling upstream G.INP by default on all compatible modems.
If they can work out if the modem supports it after a period of high ES then surely it can be done at the same time it's enabled on the downstream.
