draytek v130 & munin for stats via pi3
« on: September 01, 2018, 11:34:13 AM »

Just in case there are any V130 users out there interested in stats I have been experimenting with a pi3 and munin. Firstly though I must thank and credit the scripts to a fellow member "smf22" after I contacted him and he helped me with his scripts.

Its nice to be able to see some stats from the v130 as most know it only has one lan port. I had to get opnsense to allow me to see the modem via the wan port but so far its working well. I have found the line to be more stable since swapping over to v130. I like it that you can tweak the SNR values, this has worked well and did increase my DS sync by a few mb, obviously I am not going to push it as stability is preferred over speed for me especially with my troublesome eci cab/line.

The pi3 seems to be coping, you can have a look at some stats http://nedsv130athome.hopto.org  or see an example below. Uptime now for munin nearly a week.

happy to share any info if someone else wants to have a go etc.

Unfortunately I am unable to connect to that address. It just times out and I see a generic "Problem loading page" displayed.

yes sorry. slight technical hitch... the sd card died right at the wrong moment lol . just rebuilding it. won't be much data to look at sadly. typical when I just posted it.  :yuck:

If it is going to be a permanent feature, then I'll take a look at this time tomorrow (or thereabouts) for a view of 24 hours of statistics.  :)

I see quite a bit of data is now present. The style and format would eventually become familiar, with usage.

I'm not too sure about the need to plot the number of days up-time. It's just going to be a slope with a gradient of one per day!  :D

I'm not too sure about the need to plot the number of days up-time. It's just going to be a slope with a gradient of one per day!  :D

The reason I originally chose to graph both modem and DSL uptime was so I could easily determine whether the DSL change was related to the modem being rebooted, losing power etc. The Draytek modem didn't work well on my line and in the first few days of being connected I saw the line reset four or five times. In all the line dropped somewhere in the order of 40 times in the six weeks I used the Vigor 130. Being able to see at a glance that the modem and DSL uptime returned to zero at the same time was an obvious indicator and meant I didn't need to start trawling through logs to try and understand the reason for a DSL reset.

I moved back to a Broadcom based modem (ZyXel VMG8924-B10A) and due to the retirement of MDWS have developed similar Munin 'plugins' for that modem.

Regards

Ah, ha. I see. Thank you for explaining the logic of that choice.  :)
