install libre office 6.1
(1/1)
grumpy old man:
I don't use linux a great deal so forget how to do things when I go back to it.
I am trying to install libre office 6.1 in xbuntu. I have downloaded file but when I try to install I get message to say that the most up to date version is installed. Version 5 is installed.
How do I install version 6.1, i.e. what commands do I need to write in terminal.
Thank you
Grumpy Old Man
roseway:
--- Code: --- apt-cache policy libreoffice
--- End code ---
This will tell you what version is installed and if there is a newer version in the repository. If there is a more recent version in the repository, then
--- Code: ---sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libreoffice
--- End code ---
will upgrade it, together with any other supporting packages.
grumpy old man:
Thank you for the response.
I have entered code and received message to say software is up to date.
Seems a bit odd, as when booting libre office it comes up as version 5.
Version 6 is downloaded on my laptop, but code not picking it up.
Anyway, thank you for your help.

I'm a Xubuntu user/fan too (on my desktops); I fully deinstalled the old Libre Office version 5 via Synaptic, downloaded the Linux 64-bit 'Debian' version 6 from the LibreOffice website, and followed the instructions to install it......it was quick and easy, and works fine.
