firefox and its bad font rendering
« on: August 15, 2018, 03:20:16 PM »

firefox is really starting to p me off with it's stupid font rendering.
every other browser i test against displays correctly (chrome, opera, IE), yet firefox makes fonts much bolder than they are supposed to be.

a quick google suggests that it's not just me that has noticed this.

why is firefox being stupid and what can i place in CSS to neuter it?

@chenks - I would not think that this is something css can address as it is too low-level, no? Are they just bad fonts, simple as that? But I would just assume that their TrueType/OpenType (or whatever) engine is provided by the o/s graphics lib as otherwise it would be reinventing the wheel. I don't know what I am talking about have not used FF in 12 years. Great functions in it and loved the add-ons but too slow and way way too insecure for me because of no split-privilege design as in IE7. After IE7 came out I would never consider running anything else on Windows, on security grounds.

no the fonts are fine, it's something that firefox does to make them look more bolder than they actually are.
