Switch to newer closer cabinet
« on: August 19, 2018, 08:15:58 PM »

Hi,

my friend gets awful slow ADSL because he is so far from his exchange & cabinet

but there's been a new Fibre cabinet built close to him a few years back

can he get switched to this new cabinet?

Short answer is no.
If he was meant to be put on the nearer cabinet he would have been.

It's not possible to request your cabinet be changed, even if you were willing to pay.

If he gets above 24Mb FTTC then further work to improve speeds are unlikely. If it's below that BDUK might pick him up in the next round.
What FTTC estimates does he get?

Did you ever get your BDUK FTTP?

@j0hn,

he can't get FTTC because he is so far away from his cabinet. He gets under 2Mb ADSL

What's BDUK? Do they operate in N.Ireland?

Good news on FTTP; engineer coming on Wednesday to install it :) No charge, continuation of my existing contract ;D

Broadband Delivery UK.
The public funding that pays for broadband upgrades commercial operators won't. Yes it exists in N.I it will be the funding that paid for your FTTP.

BDUK often fund copper network rearrangements in the OpenReach network which is what happens when Exchange Only lines get FTTC or people get moved to nearer cabinets. It's a very expensive process.
