iMessage stupid mic symbol or ink or something
« on: August 11, 2018, 11:40:45 AM »

How are you supposed to send a message in iMessage ? After typing your text what are you supposed to click on ?

I click on the symbol at the right hand end of the line and sometimes I get this incomprehensible prompt, with a vertical scale on the right, about something or other. I have no idea what I am doing wrong or what I should be doing.

The Enter key does not work, just enters a new line into the text. It would be nice if you could change that behaviour in settings, to optionally make the Enter key send it.

As soon as I start typing in the text entry box the grey mic symbol which was at the right hand end changes to a white up-arrow in a blue-background circle. Pressing on that sends the message, at least it does on my iPhone and iPad.

Just a thought... you don't have a hard-wired or custom software keyboard enabled which is causing the problem do you?

Edit: On second thoughts, it's not another bug like this is it?

This is the standard keyboard in the standard iMessage app.

The weird interface you’re seeing is for sending voice messages and adding fancy (or daft, depending on your view) effects.

On my 6S+, tapping the white-on-blue (or green for regular SMS recipients) sends the message. A ‘force touch’ where you press hard to make the haptic feedback click brings up the fancy/daft menu.

I think on non-Force Touch devices, a long-press does the same thing. Perhaps you’re lingering slightly on the button during the tap?

My hands are sometimes in pain, I wish I could disable whatever this is.

I looked in 'Accessibility' but could not make much sense of it. It was so terse. Text has to be carefully rationed, as it is very expensive. I could not see anything that looked relevant.

Yeah, couldn't make any sense of that - too stupid, 'cognitive disabilities' in my case [duh]
