It is, indeed, a left-over which is totally irrelevant. For completeness --
For
G.992.1, G.992.3 & G.992.5
(the "main" three variants of ADSL)
ATM, VC/MUX
&
VPI/VCI = 0/38
are applicable.
Whereas for
G.993.2
(VDSL2, FTTC) only
PTM
is applicable.
