Thank you very much indeed for that Konrado. A special interest of mine.

I would love to measure the output of my PSUs, but I suspect that my 40 year old oscilloscope is no longer to be found.

I wonder where I can get some good power supplies then :-)

Do away with all the switching-mode PSUs and replace them with a large capacity SLA battery, which is kept charged by floating it across the output of a classical set-up of a well-regulated & smoothed transformer, bridge-rectifier and capacitive/inductive/capacitive Pi filter.

Indeed. I seem to remember we talked about this a long time ago. Good advice.

I don't understand why battery-powered routers are not made.

I am wondering if I could get an old friend to knock me up something suitable to battery-power four modems.

Doesn’t the article refer more to the internal regulation inside the modem than the external PSU?

Replacing the internal switchers with linear regulators sounds like an interesting project.

If it's good enough for BT...   :)

b*cat smiles, enigmatically, and bows.  ;)

Knowing how the GPO telephone service, and then the PO telephone service, powered all its electromechanical equipment (centralised battery, constant voltage) before migration to distributed mains-powered switching-mode PSUs (constant current), at around the time of transmogrification into BT, a return to the well-tried and tested technique was deemed appropriate for Weaver:angel:
