MBAE causing browser difficulties.
« on: July 24, 2018, 08:54:58 PM »

Are you having problems with your browser?  Is it frequently crashing or failing to load webpages?   If so the problem may be Malwarebytes which rolled out a new version yesterday.

Version 1.12.1.97 has rendered Chrome mostly unusable and causing some problems for Firefox opening Google related sites in a new tab.
At the moment all you can do is either manually rollback MBAE and stop it auto-updating or alternatively temporarily disable MWAE until a fix is rolled out.

Thanks to the guys on Chrome Help Forum and SpriteSprint on Malwarebytes for identifying the cause.

Malwarebytes have now acknowledged there was an issue with v1.12.1.97 that caused browsers to stop functioning correctly.
A beta build 1.12.1.100 is now undergoing testing and should hopefully be released to the public soon.

Glad they found out what it was.   This had been doing my head in for the past 24hrs.  Chrome was practically useless and Firefox didn't like anything related to google (including searches opened in a new tab).

At first I thought it must be something on my network/SP.    Then I spent ages checking & disabling any extensions and ABP.   Nothing I did seemed to make any difference.   I'd even checked to see Windows hadn't done a silent update (despite me having auto update switched off) but nope nothing for over a week.

Not sure how many members of this forum use MBAE, but I would have thought with it being a techie type forum, that quite a few windows users would have been affected :/

I use the free version but don't update the program much.

Isn't this the second time they have had major issues on a version update? My mind seems to remember something similar happening fairly recently.

Mine#s the free version but it auto updates :/

It would appear beta 1.12.1.100 fixes the problem, but it's still not yet been publicly released.    I'm keeping an eye open for when it is so that I can turn MBAE back on again.
