Line sharing
« on: July 23, 2018, 06:57:19 PM »

When i bought the house it had a line already in, we get our phone line from a overhead pole over the road, the phone line is fixed to a small box stuck to the side of my house then another cable runs out of it along my guttering all the way around to the peeps house next door.

Could having a shared line like this slow me down ?

Also could i remove the cable supplying next door as its fixed to my house ?

Could i ask bt to remove the cable and run a cable from the pole directly to the peeps nextdoor instead of using my house ?

Just wondering if having my own line would improve speeds any ?

To your first question I will answer "No".

To your second and third questions I suggest that you ask the legal entity that you employed to perform the conveyancing at the time you purchased the house.

To your fourth question I will answer "Probably not".

Just to make it clear, the OP hasn't got a shared line, only a shared two-way (or more) cable, with one of the pairs being extended round the house to the neighbour.

1. No

2. Don't think your neighbour would be very pleased.

3. You could ask (Openreach not BT) but I doubt they would

4. No, you already have your own line, you are just sharing a cable for the last few metres as well as sharing a cable from the cabinet.

As all the above ..... with a footnote ..... if your circuit develops a fault between the telegraph pole and your master socket, we have to re-provide a separate drop-wire to the premises, if current standards allow ??.
