Slowness in WAP
« on: July 23, 2018, 02:31:02 AM »

I measured how long it takes to apply a new config in my ZyXEL WAP, a process which I think involves a reboot as well as just applying new settings. It is around 300 seconds. Unbelievable.

Who on earth is writing this code. I was moaning about how long it takes for a ZyXEL modem to boot up. But this is a whole new level of crap ness.

Full disclosure. I write this as one of the authors of a programming language that took 35 mins to read and interpret the expression 2 + 2 in ASCII, evaluate the result in floating point and display the result on the screen in decimal in ASCII. No kidding.

My Asus router takes about 2 mins to reboot from a software reboot so not unheard of.

In fact, just using the web ui and doing the bad thing unwittingly can make it can hang for 5 mins. Not only is the web ui unresponsive during that time but it will not even respond to pings, although its WLAN-to-LAN bridging function does continue I think, not 100% sure though. The web ui is shockingly awful.
