ECI Being Replaced with Huawei
« on: July 20, 2018, 03:58:20 PM »

Hi all,

Had a quick browse and the general consensus is that OR don't tend to do this, however it looks like my local ECI cab is being replaced with a Huawei!

Can't imagine I'll see much benefit, the new cab is about 2 metres closer to me so I might see an extra half a meg or so  :D

Anyone know if this is something OR are doing nationally? I originally thought this was an expansion but my local cab has never shown full (as far as I'm aware) so I'm included to think this replacing the current Huawei.

Planning PDF below, any thoughts / comments? :)

I've seen dozens of ECI cabinets that aren't at capacity being added to with a Huawei cabinet.

I have never once seen 1 replacing the other.

the link doesn't work

edit: https://publicaccess.northumberland.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?keyVal=PBR8GWQS0CS00&activeTab=summary

looks like they are adding new DSLAM's to PCP's 2,4 & 9

These will be in addition to any existing DSLAM's.
No existing ECI DSLAM's are being removed.

How do you know yours has never been full? If checking via your phone number and you have FTTC then it will always show as available, you need to use a phone number you know that doesn't have FTTC or the full address checker, only then will it show waiting list if there's no capacity.

Yes.  :)

And does this lonely "find" belong to you? Apparently it was last seen holding hands with an abbreviated "not" and a definite article!  :D

it could be a fatal fault has developed and they may have no ECI stock so its been replaced with a hauwei, I would be surprised if they were replacing it for other reasons.

Yes I check every week or so using the full address just to see if anything new pops up / changes, it's possible I missed it being full of course

Which cabinet number/exchange? I'd love to look up the reasons for that.
AFAIK they have plenty ECI stock for repairs/damage.

It's cabinet 31 at side of 6 Vane Street,Bath, it on Roadworks.org for starting 3rd -16th August, & exchange is Kingsmead.

Just across road from that cab is another cab, at bottom of Bathwick Hill by church,FTTC cab is in Vane Street by phone box.

Something just doesn't seem right . . . and I believe we've looked at the area before, with some assistance from Black Sheep.

Outside 6 Vane Street, the PCP cabinet is clearly marked as number 1. I've checked in all the images, from all angles, for all the available years. Moving along Vane Street, towards the telephone box, the "fibre" twin cabinet is Huawei SmartAX MT5603T equipped.

Over at the bottom of Bathwick Hill, near St Mary's Church, there is another PCP cabinet whose marking is difficult to see but after checking all the images, from all angles, for all the available years, it can be seen to be marked as number 31.

I'll be interested to read what j0hn might be able to unearth.

If BT are changing ECI cabs to Huawai they should do all cabinets not just some.

I would really like to know their reasons for doing this so if anyone can find out why I am sure that would be useful information especially for ECI cab sufferers.

There are many things BT do not do as it will set a precedent so if they are swapping this cab I hope they are ready for my email asking to do my cabinet!

We do not know that as a fact.
