EE and sky ! i am fed up
« on: July 15, 2018, 11:46:36 AM »

hello,
I was with EE broadband, now with Sky, and it's awful. Anyone else getting slower speeds with Sky than with their old ISP?
originally I was with Orange broadband then they became EE and I got 2-3mbps. Rubbish I know, but I just did a speed test on my new Sky broadband because it seemed slow and this is the result: 0.69mbps down, 0.64mbps up ???

Has anyone else had this? how do I get them to stop throttling my speed? Or will I just have to go back to my old ISP, given that Sky can't hack it with 4 devices wirelessly connected to a router with 4 ethernet ports on the back of it? :-[

First thing I suggest is to type your phone number into BT's DSL checker:

https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/

What speeds does that suggest you should be receiving?  This should tell you what your physical copper phone line (owned/maintained by BT Openreach, regardless of your ISP) is capable of achieving.

What Sky router you got?

Any idea what your synch speed / attenuation / SNRM is?

And welcome, Jenny!

It could be that you have a problem with your line, with the physical setup in your house or you just need a decent ISP, too early to tell. But speeds such as that are absolutely ridiculous.

I am wanting to know what the value of a number called ‘downstream SNR margin’ is? Apologies sincerely if you are an expert in all things DSL, btw. I will adjust language accordingly, of course.

Indeed, 50p in the swear-box for extreme use of jargon on my part in that earlier post.
