Fantasy - expansion of network
« on: June 26, 2018, 12:23:31 PM »

I have tried to order an additional line, as mentioned earlier elsewhere. No reply from BT as yet, so it may be I will be out of luck but who knows.

However.

As I mentioned, there is a lot of new house building going on in the village. All EO lines, all over 7300m. At some point the demand for more lines is going to exceed the capacity of the existing long cable. At that point, is there any chance that BT might go for a cab placed in the village and offer FTTC or, wonder of wonders, FTTP from it? One can but dream.

How do these things work?

Someone at some point is going to end up with an enormous delay in getting a new or additional connection, unless of course BT decides rather sooner to be pro-active and take action ahead of time, seeing that exhaustion is inevitable.

@spring - I have waited several years, I can wait several more.

Has anyone seen an example of a very isolated EO-only hamlet being sorted out with FTTx ?

As I mentioned, there is a lot of new house building going on in the village.

Is that work being performed by one developer? Or is it being performed by an incoming flock of unrelated individuals? The other question is how many new properties will slowly arise from the rock?

If it is a co-ordinated build by a developer, then it should have notified Openreach of the potential need for new services and discussed all the options.

No, it is a load of individuals.

In that case, I suspect that once the full capacity of the cable(s) is (are) hit and then the person requesting a service will have a rather long wait.  :(

Openreach do fit all in one cabinets to enable EO areas to get FTTC services

If it is a domestic user requesting her first line is there then some obligation placed on BT to deliver a service within a certain time limit? And for a business customer?

I don't believe the current Universal Service obligation specifies a specific time limit for qualifying installs - just the maximum cost before excess charges become payable.

Its slightly unfortunate that the building work is being done by unrelated individuals - if it had been one developer it would have been much easier for Openreach to plan in a more logical fashion to increase capacity locally as needed.
