A bit blowy
« on: June 14, 2018, 08:15:47 AM »

Spent last night in a hotel on Fylde Coast.   Four floors up, in a converted attic, overlooking the sea.

Those roof tiles have not half been rattling, and now worse than ever.    Can’t remember if we’re under a big chimney, and don’t really want to know. :o

Was a tad windy last night, but not too bad and no damage here :)

Been a bit blustery today, but still warm and plenty of sunshine.  :sun:

Blowy and a bit wet last night. Janet’s spectacular enormous red poppies got blown around but more are due to emerge in the next few days.

Yes the nice sunshine was a saving grace, in that place possibly not far from you, as we awoke this morning. :)

We then headed north up to western Scotland.   The gales came with us, constantly buffeting as we drove, often at reduced speed for safety.   And with a disturbing amount debris over the motorways in places, all the way up.   And the nice sunshine...?   We left that behind us.   In among the gales, we had some torrential rain, arriving at our current damp location to mid afternoon temperatures of a heady 13c.    :'(

Still, nobody undertakes a UK holiday purely for the good weather. :D

Safely home again.

In terms of weather, a winner has emerged.   We stopped in Glasgow last night, it was damned cold, 11c and windy.Same this morning as we left.  Sun trying to shine, but oh so cold. :o

Arriving home, c400 miles south, it was mid 20s, and garden  plants near death from drought.

Apart from that, I now have a new favourite place.   It is the Kintyre peninsula.  A tremendously beautiful and friendly experience.   And even if weather is important to you I still recommend it.   Cold wet and miserable for us and judging from from the tropical foliage, we were unlucky - but still loved the place.

I don’t like linking to such things but if interested, find Paul Mccartney & Wings’ 1977 hit on youtube.   The video portrays an accurate image of the place.    A nice memorial garden to Linda too, at Campbeltown

PS:  We liked Lytham too. :)

We’ve subsequently discovered that the video was filmed on Saddell beach, one of many wonderful, deserted beaches.   We nearly visited Saddell Abbey, in which case we’d have tried to walk to the beech too, I assume it is accessible.  Instead, we parked for five minutes waiting for the rain to stop, but it just got heavier, so we moved on.  :-[

The nice thing was, you’d never have guessed (we didn’t) it was a ‘famous’ beach.   Totally uncommercialised. The only reference we found to Mccartneys was Linda’s rather cute memorial garden, in Campbeltown.   Even then, it’s small and discreet, you could easily walk past without noticing it, and we had it to ourselves.

We did visit, more or less, the area where the cover picture was taken, though we didn’t know that at the time.   I was planning to take a similar photo but tripped as I got out of the car, skinned my knee and tore my trousers, which kind of spoiled the moment, so no photo of that either.   :D
