Re: Reason for Lowish Speed. Help?
« Reply #15 on: June 25, 2018, 06:44:02 PM »

Update.

Hello again, my line's been online for 12 days straight, no problems at all. However, DLM seems to be lowering my SNRM ever so slightly by day, usually 0.1 - 0.2.

For the past three days my Down SNRM has averaged 3.0 and my Upload has averaged 6.0

The thing I don't understand is that the decrease in SNRM is causing me to lose speed. I thought the lower the snrm the higher the speed. Why would it be the opposite in my case? Anyone able to solve this riddle?  :-\

It's not DLM that's lowering your SNRM. If you look at the end of the line stats which you posted, the uptime was nearly 12 days. When DLM lowers the target SNRM, the connection drops and reconnects. Also, the connection speed will have remained the same over that nearly 12 days, so when you say that the speed dropped I presume you're referring to the download speed as measured using a speedtester? That will be due to some other cause.

Great point from roseway ..... and just for info (as the G.fast tech rolls out) ..... we won't be seeing a retrain event from DLM interaction as it uses SRA and FRA (Seamless + Fast Rate Adaption).

I'm sure I've read somewhere that the boffins are toying with SRA on FTTC products, but not sure where, or if I've actually just made that up ??  ;D

Okay, but do you know why I get lower speed at 3.0 snrm as opposed to 3.3 or 3.2? I thought my max speed would increase when my snrm is lower :/

Here at 5.9 US my max us has decreased as an example

I see, you're talking about the maximum attainable speed (shown as 'Max'). This is calculated by the modem, based on the current conditions. I don't know exactly how it does the calculation, but it's an estimate, not an absolute figure.

The max attainable is also rather meaningless as in many cases the actual sync rate can be higher than the calculated value, particularly if G.Inp is active. I generally do not take much notice of it.

Fair enough, it's only a difference of 1mb anyways, I was just curious.
