Following thread posted by oldfogy that adaware 2008 was available for download I have done just that.

The file size 18.70 mb and took around 10/15 mins to download (wasn't watching very carefully - left lap top to do it's own thing!).  This seems slow and is not the first time it has happened both on my laptop with wireless connection and desktop with ethernet connection.

Have just run speedtest three times and got the following results:
                           1^st   1840/369 kbps
                           2^nd  3319/371 kbps
                           3^rd   4487/376 kbps

Even with slowest speed I would have expected the file download to be much quicker.

Can anyone comment?

It does depend on upload speed as well so if a lot of people were accessing the server at the same time then there will be a consequent lowering of throughput.

With your sort of connection speed, in favourable conditions you should be able to download 1 MB in a couple of seconds or so. Say about 1 minute for 18.7 MB. If you were getting about one tenth of that speed it could be due to:-

- a slow server
- traffic management by your ISP
- congestion in your local exchange or at your ISP
- poor configuration of your own equipment

You can't do anything about the first three, but it might be worth checking out your MTU and RWIN values, see here.

It's unlikely (I think) to be a problem with your wireless connection, unless you're operating at the extreme of its range.

Just out of curiousity GOM which speedtester did you use?

Some of the other ookla ones have been a bit strange for me for a while (regardless of ISP).

Adaware's server  download speeds can be very poor.

Surely if the speedtests turn out to be accuate and consistent from other speedtest sites then this will confirm it is the adaware server that is slow.
