If you can increase your budget to £120 then the TP-Link VR900v2 is an excellent choice. Otherwise for £100 you can get a Netgear D7000 from Amazon down from £150:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Connections-UK-Archer-VR900-V2/dp/B01N2LSLMH

https://www.amazon.co.uk/NETGEAR-D7000-200UKS-Nighthawk-Wireless-Connections/dp/B074QMGFNY

Other good routers for less than 100 notes are the Netgear D6400, TP Link VR600v2 and Billion 8800NL. But the TP Link VR900v2 is the one to go for if you can increase your budget by £20 :)

Whilst Zyxel modem/routers have a rock solid dsl chipset, the wifi on them is average at best. As wifi is important to the OP, he is better off going for the routers mentioned in my first post, most of them use a solid new-ish broadcom dsl chipset with decent wifi range and coverage.

I'm editing as I go... until I find the answer. I know about their Wifi not being the best. Just wouldn't think someone would reply.
Besides he said "best" so 63168 chipset.

@psychopomp1
Why is the poor WiFi performance of ZyXEL routers in any way relevant when spring has suggest a two box solution with the ZyXEL being used for the xDSL only and a separate router which would provide the WiFi? ZyXEL's DSL performance is as good as any.

spring originally suggested the ZyXel VMG1312-B which is a combined modem/router and I pointed out that the wifi on it isn't the best- see his quote in my earlier reply. But like I said Zyxel models do have good DSL chipsets in them and if the OP wanted a 2 box solution, he could hook up the VMG1312-B with a netgear R7800 for a top class setup. However such a solution would easily take him above his budget.

But it appears the OP is after a combined modem/router hence why i recommended the models in my first post :)

Sorry If i replied a bit too fast to your earlier post

It seems the TP Link VR900v1 uses the Broadcom 63168 (ie same dsl chipset as ZyXel VMG1312-B) so perhaps the OP may want to consider that as the best of both worlds.

vmg1312-b10a + a router-only (if it has a modem in there it's going to be broken from using Asuswrt-Merlin) from here that is under 70 pound or whatever

https://asuswrt.lostrealm.ca/about

googled this and also saw j0hn using it so..

the problem where to find a b10a now xd so you have a point there..

Edit: can be other router brands too: http://xvtx.ru/xwrt/index.htm

Edit2: found RT-AC66U ill keep looking. i'm sure j0hn knows though ;P

spring originally suggested the ZyXel VMG1312-B which is a combined modem/router
i had my thoughts on vmg8924-b10a but i repulsed it since I know its not the best as a router and first looked for a 2017 thread with a broadcom 63168 chipset router recommendation then realized its futile as the best is seperate modem/router for the DSL side because of lack of choices, i think the emphasis is on the word best

since im not knowledge about asuswrt-merlin being "the best" ill pause my search for an asuswrt-merlin and let j0hn speak. i will google about merlin vs other firmwares.

Edit3: Asuswrt-Merlin vs LEDE https://forum.lede-project.org/t/help-me-to-configure-sqm-big-mistake-in-sqm-cake/14696/5

Edit4: Oh my god, golden thread: http://www.linksysinfo.org/index.php?threads/the-best-qos-for-gaming-and-everything-else-tomato.73927/

Edit5: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/list-of-smart-queue-management-sqm-routers.47183/

Edit6: alright it seems snbforums is the place to ask as well as input from other poeple here.

Edit7: @St3 it would help to know your wi-fi needs, i don't know what questions to ask but im asking this as the question now is Single(better wifi) or Seperate(better dsl). If the router isn't 63168 chipset it's not going to be the best, whereas if it's not a B10A [has a noise filter] it might still be the best for the budget with no doubts. it would help to post your current DSL stats & your max mtu [if its 1492 you're going to want jumbo frames support] & cabinet type [huawei needs PhyR]. also there are other things unrelated to dsl/wifi, & even 63168 devices could in theory have notable variances in performance between each other.

also don't mind my big post just treat it as something you can choose to not read xd

I'll second spring recommendation, VMG1312-B10A (or VMG8x24-B10A) + router, but if you prefer an all-in-one solution I read good things about the Netgear D7000-100UKS aka v1 and not the one in the Amazon link posted by psychopomp1 as that's the D7000-200UKS aka v2 which has Lantiq/Intel chipset GRX350 and not Broadcom (63138) like the v1

My 2p.

Did you say what kind of internet connection you have? If it is a short line then modems don't matter so much. I use the ZyXEL VMG 1312-B10A but if you use ADSL not VDSL2 then the ultra-cheap DLink DSL-320B-Z1 modem gives you more money to spend on routers and wireless lan kit.

I rather like the Draytek Vigor modems but not as fast as some on certain lines.

I would definitely say that separate wireless access point will be much better, but that is all about money, and is not very helpful.

A device that can run one of the top-quality open source router software packages would be worth looking into and kitizens will have recommendations.

I wonder if Mikrotik hardware can be had for reasonable money - looks superb from what I read.
