Er! How did BTW do this fresh calculation?
« on: June 09, 2018, 12:16:42 PM »

Curious,I've just had a look at what is being estimated since I transferred to fibre.
Code: [Select]
LATEST
VDSL Range A (Clean) 33.6 22 7.2 5 18
VDSL Range B (Impacted) 22.8 11.4 6.5 2.7 7.9
PPREVIOUS
VDSL Range A (Clean) 40 27.4 7.8 5.3 22.4
VDSL Range B (Impacted) 30.1 16.5 7.2 3.6 13.1

My sync @ 3 dB is 25600 kbps, and there are only 6 premises on my side of the road, the possibly from a different DP by their estimates. Given the unlikelihood of multi upgrades to fibre since mine, how the new estimates were worked is not obvious.

As I said above, it's just my curiosity, but can anyone think how they arrived at the new figures?

The estimates use live data as well as a certain amount of guess work.
So when you've signed up and received considerably less than the estimates they have updated to reflect this.

My estimates did the exact same but in the opposite direction. I sync well above the Clean/High estimate and it has increased to reflect this.

edit: added screenshots of my estimates. file names have the relevant dates

I agree, but the calculations must be very sophisticated guess work, and do they take in more than my number and postcode,  or, indeed, other premises fed from the same DP?

I have always worked on the assumption that any estimate is always to the DP.

As I said ours is a short road. On my side are 6 dwellings, two ( 1&3) are closer to the DP and estimated 39.1, then there is a gap where a developer wanted to build, but was refused several times, now permanently because of New Forest , finally #15-19  estimated 33.6.

The other side (no gaps) ranges 46.7 to 42.3. Does that fit with your theory, b'cat?

Clearly something is over/under estimated and the idea of the cable route is rather far from reality. The only certainty is what is currently achievable . . . the estimates are just that. Estimates.  :)
