Getting question mark characters appearing when typing

I keep getting ? characters appearing all the time when typing on my iPad Pro. (Note this has a different and vastly more usable default virtual keyboard compared with the other iPads.) It happens especially when I try to type ‘I’ for example. It could be because ? is right next to the right hand SHIFT ‘key’, or, less likely, it’s due to proximity to the RETURN ‘key’.

It’s driving me potty. I don't suppose there is any way of improving the situation? In fact, I have just had two occurrences right there!! Could an autocorrect mechanism or something similar be used to help me? At least getting rid of some of the worst offender common occurrences would be helpful such as fixing the "?I" nonsense
