Switching FTTC providers with Zyxel 8324
« on: May 19, 2018, 09:19:12 AM »

Possibly a daft question...

Next week I am migrating my FFTC connection from Sky to Pulse8.

Due to Sky's router restrictions, I currently have their router connected, with a Zyxel 8324 connected to that for improved features and Wi-Fi.

The new connection will allow me to use just the Zyxel.

Am I right in thinking that to use the Zyxel on the new connection I just need to delete the current interfaces (below), and just set up a single VDSL one?

I would normally just reset the router and start again, but I have a lot of manual settings that I'd rather not be trying to replicate again.

Will have to check with Pulse8 as I don't know if the IPoE setting that is showing there on the ADSL WAN entry will be correct. If not then it won't work at all.

In fact you don't need to delete the current interfaces, just uncheck the "active" box for them.  I've got all three on my 8924 (ADSL, VDSL, ETHWAN) with only the VDSL flagged as active.

Thanks for the advice - I will go down the inactive route and see how it goes.

I tried setting up an inactive VDSL interface the other day, but it seemed to interfere with my current settings resulting in no connection (just deleted and restored a settings backup to get back).

The encapsulation is PPPoE - Pulse8 have been very good at getting the info out, and must normally use Zyxel hardware normally as the settings they give seem to follow a familiar pattern.

I’m assuming that it’s a BT OR copper line to the FTTC green cab - I think that you said it is VDSL2 - and if it’s BT then the settings are always the same afaik. (VDSL2 settings are not the same as those for ADSL though.) Someone who knows what they are talking about will soon correct me.
