Where is the Version Number on the ZyXEL VMG8924-B10A?
« on: May 13, 2018, 10:37:19 PM »

Hi,

I looking at a Zyxel VMG8924-B10A on Ebay, and although the seller shows picture of the rear of the device, I cannot see the version number there. He cannot find it either.

I suspect that it might be somewhere on the configuration pages, but he is clearly using a different device now so won't have access to that.

I've found pictures of the back of this model that look different to each other. Some pictures have more ports on the back than others, and the one with less ports does not have information stickers on the back either.

Is that is a way to tell? Or can anyone tell me where the version number is to be found please? And what is the difference between the models? I'm not sure how many there are.

Thank you.

The one with the description mentioning John Lewis? Looks like a generic image of the back he got from somewhere, there should be a big sticker above the ports with all the information on it.

Edit: Ha, the first two results for VMG8924-B10A are both from john lewis! The second shows the full sticker though very clearly:

This is what both the VMG8924-B10A & VMG8324-B10A should look like, I have the latter on the my desk as I type this.

I am not familiar with that particular model but after performing a search using the string "ZyXEL VMG8924-B10A" on eBay and looking at the various examples found I believe that this image is of a VMG8924-B10A, whereas this image is not.

Thanks johnson and burakkucat.

Yes, the one with the stickers is the one I'm looking at, and looks 'right'.

As far as I can ascertain, there seem to be two versions of the VMG8924-B10A. I'm just trying to find out how to tell them apart and what the differences are.

I'm unaware of any other version, are you referring to the VMG8924-B10A & VMG8924-B10D? I must admit I didnt even know there was a D version of the 8942, but as with the 1312 you most certainly want the A variant.

No, I don't mean that. I've just been going through the stuff I've been looking at regarding this device, on here and elsewhere, and I think it was from the various user guides on Zyxel's ftp site that I got the idea there may be more than one version. Looking again, even the one that's called 'VMG8924-B10A_V2.00.pdf' is just a different edition of the manual for Version 1.00.

So I think you may be right: there is only one version!

Apologies, everyone.

The VMG8924-B10A and VMG8324-B10A look identical.
The only way to tell the differene by looks is the WiFi sticker on the back. The 8324 has no mention of a 5Ghz SSID.

I think that this is a new version called Zyxel VMG8924-B   https://www.zyxel.com/uk/en/products_services/Dual-Band-Wireless-AC-N-VDSL2-Combo-WAN-Gigabit-IAD-VMG8924-B-Series/

Yes that's the VMG8924-B10D.
Generally the D variants are newer, but inferior, to the A models they replaced. In particular they tend to have budget Broadcom xDSL chipsets inside.
