Ubiquiti UniFi AC Lite
« on: May 10, 2018, 11:48:12 AM »

just got a ubiquiti unifi AC Lite delivered and having a tinker with it.
seems very good and plenty of settings to play with.

one thing that did surprise me is how warm/hot it gets.
been sitting on my desk for about 35-45 minutes and it's certainly warm enough to the touch to notice it and not want to leave your fingers touching it for a period of time - makes me wonder what screwing it to the wall/ceiling will do.

some testing has left me somewhat perplexed.

connecting to the unifi i get 400Mbps (on 5Ghz)
connecting to the existing fritzox i get 833Mbps (on 5Ghz)

i'm unsure as to why i'm only getting about half when connecting to the unifi AP.

I could be wrong but have a play changing the channel width in the control panel(in "Radios" section) - increase it if possible.

after checking in with ubiquiti support, the solution is to change channel width to VHT80.
however the advise is that using VHT80 *may* cause issues.

Quote
VHT80 is using double channel width comapred to VHT40, essentially taking over e.g. channels 36,38,40,42

Anyone else trying to use these channels too (neighbors, a second AP of yours) will encounter interference and it will slow everyone down. And some clients can have issues connecting to VHT80.

But if you have clean airspace you can benefit from better speed.
