An old tech hoarder?
« on: May 05, 2018, 10:59:35 PM »

I've just been clearing out a cupboard and discovered some old'ish tech.

An old netgear dg834gt adsl2+ modem router. I think I had bought that when I was on BeThere as a backup to one I was using. I never actually needed it as the first one lasted so long. I think its the longest tech I've had in active use. The only let down today is the wifi modes are kinda old. It only has wifi at 2.4ghz. I used to use a custom firmware on the original one I had.

Next item was a powered 4-post usb hub. I think I had that for one of my old computers. But I never really used usb sticks or devices much back then so never go around to using it.

Last item was an old'ish netgear powered switch hub. I think it came out before PoE became a feature on them. I didnt know I had it as I ended up buying a newer switch when I upgraded my 4-port to an 8-port.

Does anyone else end up hoarding old tech or is it just me?  ;D

I still have some Speedtouch routers about 4 and a billion ADSL2+ router which I no longer just sitting on a desk. Also a 5 port netgear switch which is now redundant. So yes I tend to accumulate gear too. Also have 2 DSL-N55U Asus routers as spares and 2 ZyXEL VMG-1312-B10A spares.

I should probably get rid of some modems. If I can still find them, I should have a Draytek Vigor 130 and a Zyxel VMG1312-B10A.

Would anyone be interested?

Since I'm never going to get anywhere with them I ought to let the two Cisco 1830 WAPs go to a good home, but makes me sick at the thought though, because they could be so good if only I could get someone to flash them for me.

I think we've all got something (or three) stashed away, "just in case".

Just a quick reminder of the Broadband Hardware Swap Shop.

I've still got my Speedtouch 330 (Frog) modem, with installation disc; can't bear to throw it out.
Maybe it'll be an heirloom one day...  ::)
