BT Test xDSL Copper Test: Fail BTW exchange fault found.
« on: May 01, 2018, 12:36:33 AM »

I'm getting the above weird failure message from Andrews’ and Arnold’s ‘clueless’ control server when I do a ‘cooper line test’ on any of my three lines. The error message is the same on all three lines.

I reported it to AA who gave me an ‘explanation’ that made little sense and didn't explain anything to me.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with DSL. Don't use voice on these lines ever so have no idea about that.

I was asked to try and find a phone and see if there is any dial tone on the lines and I will ask Mrs Weaver if she would be so kind as to try.

AA staff did a WLR3 test, the results were

WLR3Test NSY cbs00556dat03:112061483: Fail FAULT - Dis in Exchange ServiceLevel:2.5, MainFaultLocation:EX, FaultReportAdvised:Y, AppointmentRequired:N, LineStability:, NetworkStability:, StabilityStatement:

So that doesn't look good? Am I right? Shouldn't they do something about it, at least report it to BT?

The latter error message is more-or-less the same on all three lines too.

My interpretation of the above is that it is the output from a BT system automaton to A&A and A&A, in their total transparency mode to the end user, have allowed you to see it. It is telling A&A that there seems to be a disconnection (which we can deduce must be to the PSTN equipment, as you broadband connection to the Internet is still working) within the exchange environment and it is advising A&A to make a formal fault report.

I expect that A&A have asked for you to check for the presence of the "dial tone" before they make their fault report to BT (Wholesale, I presume), so that they can "tick all the boxes" and thus not be liable for any charges.

Indeed, I get to see the output from BT’s automated systems which is the same as what AA see. And I can initiate many of the tests that AA staff can, AA trusts its customers to such a remarkable extent. (Their respect for the customer gets reciprocated too.)

‘Ticking all the boxes’ makes sense.

I presume that RevK would hopefully continue to say loudly that AA cannot possibly be liable for any charges anyway as it's BT’s kit inside BT’s exchange and BT need to pay their own staff to maintain BT’s own gear.

Does that sound like the result of BT staff fiddling round, perhaps inside the exchange ?

Quite possibly (but not deliberately, of course).

I suspect that AA has got on to someone to get it sorted out, although I have not yet heard anything.

AA staff retested and all is good now anyway on all three lines.

The log for one line shows the mysterious entry

    Update directconnect=L->Q

Anyone any idea what that might mean?

And I wonder why only the one line?

No, sorry. That is very enigmatic.  :-\
