Russian state-sponsored hackers wanting to target UK routers which essentially have hardware and software designed and made in China.
Putting that aside, threats have always been present and anybody that is connected to the web could fall victim as new vectors are found for penetration and spoofing. Some are more so vulnerable than others, depending on their usage, if they have anything of value and which hardware and software they implement. Most importantly, people should keep up to date and patch and network-facing routing hardware, especially if flaws have been found and patched (or even switch the device out if it is not updated). I would even go as far as saying ditch crap ISP routers and replace with something you can control. But remember: there's no substitute for common sense!
