I was wondering how many engineers do BT/OR have compared to VM?

I'm asking as I keep looking on the roadworks site and 90% of the time when a phone icon appears it is VM. I even tried moving the map to Manchester and Huddersfield and its the same there, nearly all VM.

I'm sure there must be many BT/OR around. I'm just wondering why they never seem to be on those phone map symbols?

Could it just be that the Openreach network exists, i.e. the legacy GPO/POTel infrastructure, and so holes do not need to be dug?

I believe when this final recruitment drive for a further 3,500 engineers, is over ..... we will be around the 30,000 mark.

As BC says, our area (Thanet)  is smothered with VM works because they are installing their network. When FTTC was being installed there was a lot of scheduled works although not as much as for VM for obvious reasons.

Also they are sub contractors, not actually VM engineers who dig the trenches and install the micro ducts.

VM have less than 14,000 employees total. Closer to 13,000 now.

BT, in common with every other incumbent telco pretty much, are rather overweight on staff, which is where cuts off 3,000+ net come in.

It seems to me that BT has got an absolute mountain of work ahead, no?

Ignitionet is probably in receipt of half-a-story .............. there has been an internal announcement that OR is 'top-heavy' with staffing ........ ie: at higher tiered management levels, NOT engineers.

What do I know but I would have thought BT management have a ton of stuff to do with handling all the change that is on the way, no? But to quote Manuel, “I know naathing!”
