Norwich Falcons -- 2018
« on: March 06, 2018, 06:14:13 PM »

At the beginning of this year, the Norwich Cathedral Spire camera was replaced. Being fitted with a wide-angle lens, it shows the viewer a rather distorted horizon.

Earlier this afternoon, one of the falcon pair "stopped off" to view its domain.

So much for the new camera with sound . . . the camera lens has been soiled and the microphone has failed. However one egg has been laid --

Earlier this afternoon the camera lens was perfectly clean and three eggs were visible --

Earlier today I had a clear view of the eggs . . . and I could only count three. I wonder if the end of the support is blocking a view of the fourth?

Unfortunately it appears the mother cracked one of the eggs.     By all accounts she is an inexperienced mother.
Last year only one chick survived.  She cracked one egg, one died shortly after hatching and then she accidentally flung one of the young chicks out of the nest :(

How unfortunate.  :(

Perhaps she will be more careful next year.

There's some footage from the 6th where you can see she flies off with the egg stuck to her breast

I'm hoping she will be more careful this year, there's a clip here of where she flies off and knocks a chick out of the nest  :'(

On my visit, earlier this afternoon, I witnessed a pigeon being "dismantled" and being fed to the new hatchlings --

A huddle of hatchings were observed for a few minutes, this afternoon. But how many? It looks like two --
