MyDSLWebStats [Without PC being on 24/7]
« on: February 02, 2018, 03:49:44 PM »

I know it might sound abit daft. Is there any VDSL Modem out there with a broadcom chipset and support MyDSLWebStats inbuilt on the same modem hardware with software on it (all in one)?

Cos I don't want to leave my PC on at all the times while running MyDSLWebStats at all times? Is there any other way to use MyDSLWebStats keep running at all times without the need of PC on at all times?

There isn't any modem with built-in access to MDWS. The usual solution to your issue is to use a Raspberry Pi. It does have to run 24/7 of course, but it uses a very small amount of energy.

What Roseway says, use a Pi. Easy to setup and install. Even for a Pi virgin.

Aye :)

I installed the latest Raspbian on mine with Pixel.
Installed DSLStats and configured.
Then setup DSLStats to autostart by modifying the LXDE file.

Took 30 mins max.

Yes, I'am using an old RPi Mk 1B which runs perfectly, I have also set up two RPi Zero W's for my son and daughter which are very cheap, small and again work perfectly, usually don't even need a separate PSU for these can be powered from the router/modem USB socket.

Lots of very good posts on the forum regarding this subject.

Neither was I.

Download Raspbian to your PC and then install it to your SD card that you use for your Pi.

https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/

Once running,
Run these commands to make sure you have the latest updates.

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Reboot
Use Chromium to navigate and download DSLStats and extract, run and configure.

Once you've done that, you can progress to autoboot.

:fingers: Thanks for this. Hope I can work it out ok when I get back from weekend away. Even my daughter stay at home (I have explain to her if there is any power cut off or power loss, switch the VDSL Modem main socket off and leave it off until the electricity is restored back on 100% solid but must wait for more 30 minutes to avoid DLM)

Well done max, it's not that difficult with the right guidance.

As "Deathstar" has already said, you are best to get the RPi auto-booting DSLStats on power up, follow this thread:

http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,20672.msg360097.html#msg360097

This will guide you through the process of running the RPi headless, ie. remotely managed from your desktop PC or laptop using VNC and also getting DSLStats to auto-boot after any power outage / restoration.
